<p>255 Capitol St. NE Salem, Or 97310</p><p>Application for Oregon Dyslexia Advisory Council Membership</p><p>The Oregon Dyslexia Advisory Council (ODAC) will provide policy advice to guide the Oregon Department of Education (ODE)’s efforts to provide support and resources to school districts that are necessary to assist students with dyslexia and their families. Specifically, the Advisory Council will:</p><p>1. Provide input and recommendations to develop a plan on universal screening to be submitted to the interim legislative committee on education no later than September 15, 2016 to:</p><p>• ensure that every K/1 student enrolled in a public school receives a screening for risk factors of dyslexia; • identify screening measures that are cost effective and screen for phonological awareness rapid naming skills letter/sound correspondence family history of difficulty in learning to read; • provide guidance for notifications sent by school districts to parents of students who are identified as being at risk for dyslexia based on a screening of risk factors.</p><p>2. Provide input and recommendations on developing a list of training opportunities related to dyslexia to be shared with districts that complies with the knowledge and practice standards of an international organization on dyslexia.</p><p>3. Offer guidance to ODE on working with districts to ensure that at least one kindergarten through grade 5 teacher in each K-5 or K-8 school receives training related to dyslexia.</p><p>4. Review and provide feedback on Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) drafted to address SB 612 requirements.</p><p>Commitment The work above is to be accomplished through a series of large Advisory Council and small work group meetings beginning in March of 2016 and continuing through December of 2017. It is possible that the Advisory Council may need to convene occasionally after this date.</p><p>Initial Planning Phase (March 2016 through September 2016) Large Advisory Council meetings will be scheduled bimonthly (March, May, July, September) in the initial planning phase that runs through September of 2016. Smaller work groups that consist of a subset of ODAC members with expertise on specific issues related to dyslexia (e.g., measurement, training) will meet monthly to make recommendations to take back to the larger group for review. A smaller work group will initially be formed to focus on issues related to universal screening (March-August, 2016) and a second work group will be formed to focus on training opportunities (May-September, 2016). 255 Capitol St. NE Salem, Or 97310</p><p>Continued Planning Phase (October 2016 to December 2017) Large Advisory Council meetings will be scheduled quarterly (November 2016, February 2017, May 2017, September 2017). Travel reimbursement may include compensation for overnight stay based on the number of miles traveled to attend the meeting.
