Interface Design

Project C: Interactive Game

BACKGROUND

Blizt Entertainment is developing a series of interactive games that will be sold through newsagents on floppy disk. The first game to be developed is an interactive checkers game.

THE BRIEF

The game is based on the traditional checkers game but the client does not want a traditional look to it. Even the design of the board area can be altered from the traditional flat look to incorporate ‘a more futuristic/ Star Trekky appearance’.

There is only one screen.

The interface must be in 8 bits or less to fit all the graphics and program coding onto one 1.4mb floppy disk.

The screen resolution is 640x480, again to keep the graphic file size down to a minimum.

The game will be fully self-running and must not be web compatible.

The target audience is children between the ages of 8 to 12 years old.

The interface must contain these elements:

A timer Score board for two players or one player against the computer. Areas to show how many of each player's pieces are captured. Wording ‘Blizt Entertainment’ (can be in any form - there is no corporate identity). Design to include icons/imagery for the checker pieces. Quit, new game, help, sound level, contact us buttons/links. They do not have to be named as mentioned- could be icons only.

The client feels that a strong 3d type metaphor would be most appealing to the target market. The client also likes the look and feel of the following games: Riven Myst Quake
