Dear Uncommon Collegiate Parents and Guardians

September 11, 2015

Dear Uncommon Collegiate Parents and Guardians,

As our students continue down the road to college, an important step is quickly approaching on the horizon: the PSAT exam.

Administered by the College Board, the PSAT is also known as the “Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.” The exam is not an IQ test, but rather an exam that tests critical thinking skills in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. The exam affects our scholars for two major reasons:

1. It provides first-hand practice for the SAT Reasoning Test, the exam which will play an integral role in the college admissions process. 2. It functions as a qualifying test for National Merit Scholarships. Based upon PSAT scores earned in October of their junior year, students can earn significant financial scholarships for college.

Due to the important reality of the exam’s purpose, all Grade 9, 10 and 11 UCC scholars will be among 3.5 million high school students across the nation to take the PSAT exam on Wednesday, October 14, 2015. A few logistics about the day:

 Students must arrive between 7:15 and 7:55 AM on the day of the exam.  Students who arrive once the exam has officially begun will not be allowed entrance to the exam.  The exam in its entirety will take approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.  Students will be dismissed at 12:00 PM.

We are extremely excited to offer the PSAT exam to our scholars! Early exposure to this exam is crucial to their ultimate success on the SAT exam and acceptance into the college or university of their choice.

For questions pertaining to the purpose or content of the PSAT exam, please contact Miss Angiolillo at 347-390-0300, ext. 5700. For questions pertaining to the logistics of the day, please contact the main office. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Mr. Corburn Miss Angiolillo Principal Director of Operations
