Maine Ranks 13Th in Digital State Survey

Maine Ranks 13th in Digital State Survey

The Center for Digital Government, a national research and advisory institute, recently announced the results of its new 2004 Digital States Survey. Maine was ranked 13th in the nation in this study of best practices, policies, and progress made by state governments in their use of digital technologies to better serve their citizens and streamline operations. The 2004 survey examined over 60 measurements in four broad areas – service delivery, architecture and infrastructure, collaboration, and leadership, and is the first report on the transition of states to digital government since the 2002 elections. In the Digital State Survey Sustained Leadership Award, which studied the states’ progress from 1997 – 2002, Maine had been ranked 19th.

Upon being notified of the survey results Richard B. Thompson, Maine’s Chief Information Officer, stated “Maine continues to rank amongst the best in the nation in delivering quality and useful digital government services to its citizens. Governor Baldacci and his Administration and the Legislature actively support the use of technology to enhance service delivery while containing costs. We appreciate the recognition by the Center for Digital Government.”
