<p> The Metaphor</p><p>Before you read: Think back to your previous school years. Is there a teacher that for some reason stands out in your mind? Think about how he describes the following people.</p><p>Miss Hancock: ______</p><p>Charlotte’s 7th grade classmates: ______</p><p>Look back at the description that Charlotte offers in the metaphor about her mother. From what Charlotte tells us, what can you surmise about her? ______</p><p>What does the description of Charlotte’s house offer as far as insight into the world of Charlotte’s home life? ______</p><p>How does Charlotte change in the years between Junior and Senior high? Why does this kind of transition often take place in school aged kids? ______</p><p>Is Charlotte right for blaming herself for Miss Hancock’s death? ______</p><p>In literature, what is meant by the term irony?
