<p> DEAR TEACHERS!</p><p>Please read and discuss the following pages on Health & Safety Rules with children attending and any parent, teacher, helper assisting with the workshop. Important safety regulations</p><p>We trust that as the teacher you are aware of your student’s limitations and will organize additional aid where necessary.</p><p>It is necessary for those children who have been identified with special needs or challenging and occasionally unpredictable behavior must have an aid or additional staff/parent supervision to be provided by the school. This person(s) is to remain with the student(s) throughout the workshop. </p><p>As this is hands-on activity, we expect your assistance at all times. The highest level of discipline and control is required due to the use of tools, such as vices, junior saws, nails, hammers, pliers, etc, that can be harmful when children are not properly supervised. If the workshop is to be run successfully then the discipline must not be left solely to the instructor. If the woodwork instructor is left to both conduct the class and keep an eye on students (especially with respect to discipline) then the instructor cannot use his or her time at all effectively. </p><p>Please make every effort to ensure a successful workshop with a high standard of supervision ! Health & Safety Rules </p><p>KEEP YOUR AREA CLEAN. (Cluttered areas and benches invite injuries)</p><p>DO NOT WEAR SMOCKS, LOOSE CLOTHING OR JEWELLERY. (They can be caught in moving parts)</p><p>TIE BACK LONG HAIR.</p><p>ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES.</p><p>DO NOT RUN OR THROW OBJECTS ABOUT.</p><p>RESPECT THE TOOLS, MODELS, AND OTHER PEOPLE.</p><p>IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, ALWAYS ASK FIRST.</p><p>WATCH WHAT YOU ARE DOING. USE COMMON SENSE.</p><p>WHEN WORKING WITH A SAW, NEVER PLACE YOUR HAND OR A FINGER IN FRONT OF THE SAW BLADE KEEP PROPER FOOTING AND BALANCE AT ALL TIME. </p><p>NEVER PUT YOUR FINGER IN THE VICE!!! (In the squeezer)</p><p>SOME USEFUL HINTS:</p><p>(1) Squeeze the wood in the worktable as low as possible to prevent any wobbling or snapping of the wood.</p><p>(2) Stay in front of your table. Put one foot on the step and press the table to the floor. Your table will be much more stable. (This is very important).</p><p>(3) Hold your saw with both hands on the handle.</p><p>(4) When you start to saw, follow the line and always cut downwards. </p><p>(5) If you snap a saw blade, please don’t be upset. Just drop it in the bin. Let us know and we will change it for you. </p>
