<p>Hatchet Projects & Presentation</p><p>Mrs. Harris 6 Grade Class</p><p>As we come to the end of Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, you are required to complete one of the projects listed below. Projects are Due November 30th and will be presented to the class.</p><p>1. Make a model of Brian’s camp and environment using toys, Play do, modeling clay, or Legos. Include everything he sees and uses to help him survive, such as lean-to, fire, pile of wood, hatchet, berries, trees, bear, wolf, moose, skunk, porcupine, grouse, turtle, the plane, and the L-shaped lake. Include a short written explanation of what is shown AND why it is important to the story.</p><p>2. Make illustrations of three scenes in the story using markers, crayons, watercolors, paints, or charcoal to draw the illustrations. Include an index card explaining each scene and event that occurred. Number of sentences in paragraph should be no more than 8.</p><p>3. Make a poster identifying animals and plants (drawings and/or cutouts)</p><p>Brian encountered in the wilderness (bear, wolf, moose, skunk, porcupine, grouse, turtle, choke berries, raspberries, fish). Write a short factual description for each animal and plant; no more than 8 sentences per description; must include at least 3 animals and 2 plants).</p><p>4. Make a diorama depicting a survival scene in the story, such as fire building, shelter-building, cooking, fishing, etc., using a shoe box, modeling clay, Play do, fabric and/or bits of yarn. Include a short written explanation of the survival scene; no more than 8 sentences. ( A diorama is 3D. You could use the inside of a shoe box, cover it in construction paper to create a background, add items inside the shoebox to complete the survival scene.) 5. Make a Survivor Guide book showing survival skills that Brian learned while in the wilderness; should include at least five survival tips with an illustration and a written description).</p><p>6. Create a time-line of important events in Hatchet. Include seven events and an illustration either drawn, or using clip art or magazine cut-outs in correct order. Write a paragraph explaining the main events; no more than 8 sentences.</p><p>7. Make a model of the hatchet and create a poster indicating all of the ways that Brian used the hatchet. Write a paragraph describing the ways the hatchet was used; no more than 8 sentences.</p><p>Written Description</p><p>Each written description should be written in paragraph form. The paragraphs should include a main idea and supporting details along with a conclusion sentence.</p><p>The last paragraph should include a description of your project and why it is important to Hatchet. Don’t forget to use correct capitalization and punctuation!</p>
