BOW TIMES 2304 Mayfield Dr., Round Rock, Texas 78681 http://www.centraltexasclassicchevyclub.org

Volume 29 Number 12 December 2007 Established in 1979 to encourage the restoration and preservation of all series and models of 1955, 1956 and 1957 Chevrolets, including Corvettes and Trucks.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE NEXT MEETING Christmas Party Thursday December 13 6PM at CANNOLI JOE’S Gourmet Italian Feast 4715 Hwy 290 West. Be sure and let Dan Bowen know if you plan to attend.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

December means that this is the last month of my tenure as president. I have thoroughly enjoyed representing the club as president for the last two years. I was always confident that other members would step up when called upon and this was the case. Our club hosted Lonestar XXV last spring and it was a big success only because of the club members’ support and help.

Now I know that the club is in good hands for next year because some of the same members stepped up and offered to lead the club in ’08. Dan will become president and Dennis will be vice- president. Both of these members have held these offices past years so they know the ropes so to speak. Pat and Kay have offered to remain in their respective offices and they both do a great job.

The Christmas party is next week (12/13) and Dan has arranged for what sounds like a great time for the club. The annual club awards will be presented to their respective winners at the party. The Larry Igo Commemorative Preservation Award and Classic Achievement Award were chosen by fellow club members and I got to select the President’s Award). I am looking forward to seeing all of you members there!

BTW - if you were not at the November meeting at Ronnie and Robin Raben’s house you missed a good meeting. Food was great and as usual, Ronnie’s garage is fun to look around and see all the car memorabilia and artifacts.

See you down the road.

Tom

1 MINUTES FROM THE LAST MEETING

Minutes from meeting November 15th held at the home of Ronnie and Robin Raben. Twenty four members and two guests were present. President Tom Porter opened the meeting and welcomed members and guests. Tom thanked members for flowers, thoughts and prayers during his recent illness. New members are Joel and Barbara Parish. They recently purchased a 56 four door, turquoise and white. Rodney and Johnny Vasicek were guests. They recently finished restoring a black 57 four door. Tom asked the members to introduce themselves and tell about their cars for the benefit of new members and guests. Tom gave a short history of the club. Old Business: Kay presented the treasurer’s report and it was approved. A motion to accept the minutes of the last meeting as published in the newsletter passed. Dan is planning a cruise to Gary Job Corps to present them with a check for $1000 from the proceeds of Lone Star. The money will be broken up into $250 increments which will be matched by Matco Tools to purchase tools for individual students. New Business: Christmas party Dec. 13 at Cannoli Joes on 290 W where Wolfe Nursery used to be. Dan asked members to email him if they were planning to attend. Car shows attended by members were Marble Falls, Burnet, Bastrop, Elgin Hogeye festival. Buda Fest parade Dec 1, Pflugerville parade Dec. 8, Jollyville Dog and Rod Show. Members Voted for next year’s officers. Results were Dan Bowen, president; Dennis Zwernemann, vice president, Kay Bowen, treasurer; Pat Corbell, secretary; Ronnie Raben, activities director; Robin Raben, historian. Tom said he had enjoyed being president and the Lone Star convention, but was ready to step down. Ronnie Raben gave us a visual tour of his garage and invited members to check out his office where more memorabilia was on display. Dan won the 50/50 drawing. The members thanked Ronnie and Robin for having us. The meeting was adjourned. Respectfully Submitted, Pat Corbell. Thanks to the Rabens The November meeting at the Raben’s is always a treat and this year was no exception. We dined sumptuously on hamburgers and sausage provided by Ronnie and Robin. It would be hard to beat one of Ronnie’s thick grilled hamburgers. The meeting was held in Ronnie’s award winning garage where you could spend hours looking at the car related decorations that almost cover every square inch of the walls and ceiling. Budafest A good time was had by all at the Annual BUDAFEST Parade and festival this year. There was a slight change to the parade this time. Instead of heading North on Main Street we were directed South. The length of the parade was the same but we ended where we normally start. This was due to the construction that is taking place downtown Buda. The weather was warm and breezy with a little moisture in the air. It didn't rain but it could have, maybe that kept you from coming. But a few of us didn't want to miss out on this. Two of our new members, Joel & Barbara Parish with their 56, and Johnny & son Rodney Vasicek with his 57 attended. Pat & Margaret Corbell with the 55, George Brunner with his 55, Dan & Kay with the yellow 56, (too wet for the Green 56), rounded out the Classics, other members attended with their Street Rods, John & Gloria

2 Majalca and Bobby & Maria Marshall came in John's 32 Chevy. Eric Wyersky made an appearance with his 62 Buick Skylark Convertible. Robert & Mary Morris with the Hill Country Street Rods followed with his 41 Pontiac. We had a nice representation for our Club.

After the parade was over, we found parking where we could and a few left for other commitments. We shopped and walked the fair grounds and eat from the vendors. The weather held while we were there and left around 2:00pm and headed home.

Dan Bowen Bastrop Car Show

The Veteran’s day car show was well attended by members of the Club. (at one point, we counted 21 members and that may be an incomplete count). 262 cars were registered and more were on display. The Bastrop club finally had to cut off registration, so that judging could take place. Among those showing cars were Tom and Pam Porter, Dan Bowen, Wayne Casteel, John and Gloria Majalca, Bobby Marshall, Zeke Salinas, Dennis Zwernemann, Eric Weyerski, Jeff and Tammy Campbell, Don and Marilyn Peterson, Stan Martin, Pat Margaret Corbell, Ron Garcia, Ben Ancira, and Gary & Barbara Baker.

Even though this event is three day long, the car show portion is a one day event held on Saturday. The Bastrop Area Cruisers did a great job putting this together along with the Downtown Coalition. They held a small parade with the color guard and some veterans walking down Main street to the Stage area for a ceremony honoring the American Veterans.

Hopefully next year we can have a greater number of members attending the event. This year we were the largest Club attending the Veterans Day Event.

Gary Job Corps

On Monday, Nov. 12, several members drove their classics to Gary Job Corps to present them with a check for $1000 from Lone Star XXV profits. Members who went were Dan Bowen, Zeke Salinas, John Majalca, Bobby Marshall, Richard Inscore, and Pat Corbell. Wayne Casteel met us outside San Marcos on Highway 21 in his patrol car and gave us a police escort the rest of the way. Robert Morris, president of Hill Country Street Rods, met us at Gary. The officials at Gary photographed us for their newsletter and gave us a tour of the automotive facilities. The students thoroughly enjoyed looking at the cars, and some of the members entertained the crowd with “burnouts”. We all had a good time.

The money will be used to purchase tools for the automotive students. Each benefiting student will get $250 and that will be matched by a major tool company. The continued support of this program from you, the members, will greatly be appreciated.

3 UPCOMING EVENTS

Members.
