Paul just got dropped off at Girl’s house and they are waiting for her mother to drive them to the dance.</p><p>GIRL: Hi!</p><p>PAUL: Hi!</p><p>GIRL: So. . . tell me about yourself.</p><p>PAUL: Well, I play lacrosse…</p><p>GIRL: Cool! That's kind of like football, right? Wait, no. I have that completely wrong.</p><p>PAUL: Don't worry about it.</p><p>GIRL: Sorry. I actually do know more about sports, it's just that - honestly — I'm nervous. I'm so terrible at these things.</p><p>PAUL: What — dates?</p><p>GIRL: Yeah.</p><p>PAUL: Ahh, don't worry about it. It’ll be fun.</p><p>GIRL: Yeah.</p><p>PAUL: And I don’t expect much, so, you know… no pressure.</p><p>GIRL: Right. Me neither.</p><p>PAUL: So will we be leaving soon, or—</p><p>GIRL: You don't seem the least bit flustered. How do you stay so calm?</p><p>PAUL: Oh. Well, it helps to have a lot of first-hand experience with relationships.</p><p>GIRL: You've done a lot of dating?</p><p>PAUL: Yeah. Dating, girlfriends, blah blah blah.</p><p>GIRL: You have an ex-girlfriend?</p><p>PAUL: No, no.</p><p>GIRL: It's totally okay if you do. My friend Erin has an ex-boyfriend, and she’s a year younger than us. PAUL: Oh, don't worry about that. I don’t have any ex-girlfriends —</p><p>GIRL: Okay.</p><p>PAUL: — I have current girlfriends.</p><p>(Pause.)</p><p>GIRL: I'm sorry, I thought I heard you say—</p><p>PAUL: I have girlfriends.</p><p>GIRL: Oh.</p><p>PAUL: Two of 'em.</p><p>GIRL: Two girlfriends.</p><p>PAUL: Yeah ... I can tell you're kind of disappointed about it .. </p><p>GIRL: (Not terribly convincing.) Nooo …</p><p>PAUL: It's okay to be disappointed! I'm disappointed with myself! </p><p>GIRL: Are you ...?</p><p>PAUL: I am. I mean, two girlfriends is such a tiny number of girlfriends.</p><p>GIRL: Excuse me?</p><p>PAUL: I know! It's unbelievable. All my buddies are always making fun of me in gym: (He recounts each of the jabs with frustrated disdain.) "Hey, look over there — it's the guy with only two girlfriends!" "Maybe he wants a bite of my Two-nafish sandwich." "He's like a ballerina with his Two-tu." "Hey everybody! Get your camera! It's a TWO-pac Shakur!" or, y'know, "Peace." (He does an irritated impression of someone giving him the two finger peace sign.) I mean, two girlfriends? Two? You gotta admit, that’s pretty pathetic. I'm embarrassed to show my face in public.</p><p>GIRL: Uh huh.</p><p>PAUL: And y'know, I'm thinking that you ... (Pause for effect.) .. you ... might just be the perfect candidate for Numero Tres.</p><p>GIRL: I am...</p><p>PAUL: Absolutely! So what do you think? Be honest.</p><p>GIRL: Be honest? PAUL: I mean I go out with Emily on Friday nights and Grace on Saturday nights, but you and I could go places of Saturday or Sunday afternoons.</p><p>GIRL:…</p><p>PAUL: (Inviting.) So ... ?</p><p>(Pause. Girl decides to try a special angle.)</p><p>GIRL: All right, this is sounding like something I'd be interested in.</p><p>PAUL: Really?</p><p>GIRL: Yeah.</p><p>PAUL: For a second there I got the vibe there like you were freaked out. </p><p>GIRL: No no. Please. How could anyone be freaked out by anything you've said so far?</p><p>PAUL: That's what I'm saying!</p><p>GIRL: But there's one little thing you should know before we do this.</p><p>PAUL: Fire away!</p><p>GIRL: I have four boyfriends.</p><p>(Paul is expressionless.)</p><p>(Pause.)</p><p>(Pause.) (Pause.)</p><p>PAUL: See that’s just messed up.</p><p>Blackout.</p>
