Course Topics A. Course Description: This course explores the craft and techniques of filmmaking. Students will analyze masterpieces of filmmaking as they unfold the historical landmarks of its pioneers. They will identify camera angles, shots, editing techniques and the power of each to clarify a story, manipulate the audience, or relate a concept. Students will also create storyboards, charts and narrative diagrams in order to create videos that are edited in camera and edited using the program imovie. </p><p>B. Scope and Sequence  Understanding film techniques such as color, camera angles and movement etc to create a mood for a film.  Media and Film Theory Exploration  Film Criticism  Creative thinking skills and Interdisciplinary connections  Storyboarding  Filming and editing movie projects.</p><p>II. Statement of Course Goals and Objectives</p><p>A. Goals: This visual arts course is based on national, state, and district Visual Arts Standards. This course is designed to introduce students to the history and techniques of filmmaking, a variety of film/video media and techniques, film history and criticism. Through the film production course, students will be able to enhance their critical thinking skill and make artistic connections to other disciplines. B. Objectives: Students will: 1. demonstrate an understanding of film styles 2. demonstrate the proper use of video materials in a safe and responsible manner 3. explore and experiment with various film/video media and techniques 4. develop and use film/video terminology and vocabulary appropriately 5. describe, analyze, interpret, and judge the artistic merit of films through the process of oral and written critique 6. identify connections to and relationships of film art to other disciplines.</p><p>III. Course Requirements  Required materials - pencil or pen and a notebook with paper  Daily work assignments, class participation, and class preparedness.  Oral and written film critiques.  All major assignments must be turned in by the specified deadline. Grading is based on fulfilling stated criteria, class participation, developmental skills, comprehension of subject matter, and student effort.  In order to demonstrate knowledge of the concepts, techniques, methods, and processes covered in class throughout the semester, students will produce several films that are edited using imovie.  Any assignments not attempted will result in a zero.  Any work assignments not finished by the deadline will result in a lower grade - depending on the student's effort, ability to stay on task, and daily class participation.  Tests and quizzes will be given to assess comprehension of units of study.  Students with an excused absence will be allowed to make up missed work within a reasonable time frame. It is the student's responsibility to find out from the teacher what was missed and what needs to be made up!</p><p>IV. Grading</p><p>A. Projects - 60% B. Classwork - 30% C.
