<p>Title of Project: Graduate Ethics Education for Future Geospatial Professionals</p><p>Interview Protocol</p><p>Interviewer: ______Date: ______</p><p>1. Acquire informed consent Interviewer presents and explains IRB-approved consent form, and acquires informant’s signature on two copies. Informant retains one original copy. Interviewer delivers other signed original copy to principal investigator (instructor). </p><p>2. Discuss example case Interviewer reads a case study that poses an ethical problem related to professional practice in the geographic information science and technology field. (Student interviewers will develop hypothetical cases under instructor’s supervision as a preliminary assignment.) Interviewer asks how such a case would be handled in the interviewee’s firm or agency. Does the informant’s employer have a code of ethics? If so, request a copy.</p><p>3. Discuss informants’ experience Interviewer asks informant to describe a situation in which an ethical problem confronted him or her (or their organization). Informant urged to protect identities of individuals and other organizations. If informant cannot recall an actual ethical problem, proceed to step 4. </p><p>4. Background information and Code of Ethics a. Informant’s educational background (credentials and specialized courses). b. Informant’s experience in the geospatial field </p><p> Years experience (total)  Current title and responsibilities  Time in this role c. Informant’s organization</p><p> Is it a public or privately held?  For-profit or not-for-profit?  What products or services does it make or provide?  Who are its customers? d. Is informant professionally certified? Explain (which certification, when certified). </p><p>1 e. How many geospatial professionals are employed in informant’s firm? How many are certified? f. Ask informant to discuss his or her opinion of GISCI certification. g. To what extent is informant familiar with the GISCI Code of Ethics and Rules of Conduct? Ask him or her to summarize the Code and Rules. h. Present copies of the Code and Rules to informant. Ask him/her to describe a hypothetical ethical problem that might arise in relation to one or more of the ethical obligations and rules?</p><p>If informant describes a relevant scenario, ask for permission to develop an anonymous case study. Acquire supporting documents and/or data if possible. Assure informant that he/she will have opportunity to review and approve case study before it is shared with anyone other than the principal investigator (instructor).</p><p>2</p>
