Paper Testing

By Eric Su and Ron Yeh

These experiments seek to evaluate the compatibility of Anoto technology with various forms of paper. We bought several types of paper from different manufacturers. The paper comes in different form factors, such as business cards, labels, clear labels, full-page stickers.

For each paper, we wrote on it with a Logitech IO2 Pen (without Bluetooth). We also uploaded this data to ButterflyNet, to see whether the paper performed well.

Printing Profile: Laser (limited colors) profile

Product: Avery White Index Cards 5388 Printer: HP LaserJet 4250/HP DeskJet 5850 Results:

Trial 1 (HP LaserJet 4250) 1) Dot pattern printed successfully 2) Pen did not buzz or fail 3) Marks are captured by software and look similar to actual.

Trial 2 (HP DeskJet 5850) 1) Dot pattern printed successfully, though there were rows of ink that were darker than the rest. 2) Pen did not buzz or fail, except when written over the darker rows. 3) All marks (even over the dark rows) are captured by software and look similar to actual.
