The Marshall Foundation Award was established in 1997 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Marshall Plan speech at Harvard University. The award recognizes the recipients’ contributions to fostering peace and international economic development The Criteria. The award is given to individuals who have: furthered international humanitarianism and economic development; perpetuated free and democratic institutions and the economic development that has allowed them to flourish; demonstrated the personal and professional qualities and life of selfless service as embodied by the life and career of George Catlett Marshall. Past recipients. Chancellor Helmut Kohl (1997), Mr. David Rockefeller (1999), President George H.W. Bush (2002), Secretary Colin L. Powell (2003). Recipients for 2007. Former Congressman Lee Hamilton and Senator John Warner The Program. A gala reception and dinner followed by a program. Mr. Hamilton and Senator Warner will be honored for their life-long commitment to selfless service in the model of George C. Marshall. The evening will include entertainment, tributes to the two recipients from prominent national and international figures and remarks by Mr. Hamilton and Senator Warner and other distinguished guests. The program will also celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Marshall Plan. The Marshall Foundation. Founded in 1953 at the urging of President Harry S. Truman, the mission of the Foundation is to preserve and perpetuate the legacy of George Catlett Marshall, Army Chief of Staff in WWII, Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, and President of the American Red Cross. Located at the Virginia Military Institute (Marshall’s alma mater) in Lexington, Virginia, the Foundation accomplishes its mission through its museum and archives, which contain the papers of Marshall and many of his contemporaries. The Foundation also conducts programs in education, outreach, international affairs and leadership. A full description of the programs and offerings is available.
