<p> National Height Modernization regional meeting teleconference for the southeastern states and Puerto Rico</p><p>Raleigh, NC January 27, 2010 1:00 – 4:00 pm (EST)</p><p>Agenda NGS o News o Grant opportunities State reports o Status o Activities Joint projects</p><p>Attendees: Affiliation (state, territory, or Name National Geodetic Survey) Georgia ~ No rep in attendance ~ Kentucky ~ No rep in attendance ~ Childers, Vicki Lokken, Scott National Geodetic Survey Roman, Dan Shields, Renee Thompson, Gary North Carolina Nave, Jerry Puerto Rico ~ No rep in attendance ~ Lapine, Lew South Carolina Wellslager, Matt Tennessee Waters, Jim Virginia ~ No rep in attendance ~ West Virginia ~ No rep in attendance ~ NGS News NGS reports o NHMP status: Renee Shields o GRAV-D: Vicki Childers o Geoid: Dan Roman</p><p> The NGS 10-Year Plan: Questions and comments from teleconference attendees o Concern that NGS may not support a passive network or provide access through the current database o Concern that NGS does not plan to consult the user community, except for the folks at ACSM, about its plan to move to a new horizontal datum and a new vertical datum o Concern with NAD83 legislation in states if a new horizontal datum is adopted by NGS o Recommend that NGS study the need for a new horizontal datum and a new vertical datum</p><p>Status report from each state or territory Prior to the meeting, the Height Mod representatives from each state/territory in the southeast region were asked to prepare a brief report on the Height Mod activities in their respective state/territory.</p><p> South Carolina: Lew Lapine and Matt Wellslager o Charleston County has 12 tide stations that NGS was not able to survey for the VDatum project. Although these stations did not contribute to VDatum, they can validate it. o SC has a dozen CORS that have been in the NGS queue for acceptance into the National CORS Network for 1 ½ years. When will NGS accept these CORS? o The RTN data sharing agreement between NC and SC is working well for our RTN users along the NC/SC border.</p><p> Tennessee: Jim Waters o TN has RTN data sharing agreements with AL, KY, and MO. We are negotiating an agreement with NC. o TN seems to get their CORS into the National CORS Network fairly quickly. o TN Base Mapping Program (TNBMP): Multi layered digital basemap (GIS and imagery) that will support the business functions of State and local government North Carolina: Gary Thompson, Scott Lokken, and Jerry Nave o Height Mod Workshops at NCA&T State University: - Jerry Nave of NCA&T stated that this year’s workshop will be held in August before school starts, rather than in September as had been done in previous years. - He had made a CD of previous workshops and sent it to Ross Mackay of NGS, but it never arrived. So, he will resend it. o DFIRM maintenance plan/schedule o CORS and RTN - NC has ~7 CORS that have been in queue at NGS for about a year. - Upgrading CORS from GPS to GNSS. - Using Twitter to inform RTN users of network problems. o Using HM to do subsidence studies. o NC will be collecting statewide imagery in 2010. o Building a geodetic control database with a link to each corresponding NGS datasheet, but will also store/distribute control data that will not be submitted to NGS.</p><p> GA, KY, PR, VA, and WV: No reps in attendance</p><p>Joint state projects General discussion of the difficulty in finding projects or activities that can be done jointly.</p><p>Actions items 1. Long delays on acceptance into the National CORS Network Renee will check on the CORS queue for NC and SC.</p><p>2. Grants Renee will send a Federal Funding Opportunity (FFO) sample to Jim Waters so he can do searches on the Grants.gov website.</p><p>3. Ht Mod Workshops Jerry will send a CD to Ross with the presentations from previous Height Mod workshops.</p>
