<p>John Wellman, the son of Bennett, was the tenth sheriff of Cabell County. The sheriff only served one-year terms. He served two terms from July 21, 1823 to December 23, 1825, under appointment by Governor James Pleasants, Jr., of Virginia. His bondsmen were: General Elisha McComas; F. Moore; Henry Phillips; Hughe Bowman; Moses McComas; Samuel Webb (his brother-in-law); Hezikiah Adkins; Andrew Barret; Jesse Toney; Joseph Fulkerson and William B. Davis.</p><p>The Samuel Webb referred to here was a brother to Nancy Webb Wellman (John Wellman's wife). Samuel lived to be 105 years old. The oldest man in Wayne County at his death in 1885.</p><p>In the year 1800 McCager Frasher and wife Susan (Sukie) Hamilton Frasher, with their 12 children came from Botetourt County, Virginia to Mill Creek just above Fort Gay. They settled there. These people played a great part in the development of this area, they raised a large family and prospered. McCager lived to be 107 years old and his wife, Sukie, lived to be 112. They were hardy people and had the true pioneer spirit. They are buried in the Frasher cemetery on the hill facing the intersection of U.S. 52 and Route 37, just in back of the Delbert Cyrus property.</p><p>McCager was born in 1736 and died in 1843. His wife was born in 1740 and died in 1852. Their children were: Lewis, William, Haston, John, McCager, George, Nancy, Sarah, Mary (Polly), Stacey, Betty and Vina.</p><p>Lewis, the oldest, married Elizabeth Griffe Ratliff. William married Sarah Francis Webb (daughter of Robert). Haston married Basha Berry. John Frasher went to Missouri and we don't know anything about McCager. George Frasher married Charolett Wells, Nancy married William Adams, Sarah married William Thompson, Mary married Samuel Webb, Stacey married David Ratliff, Vina married George Martin and Elizabeth (Betty) never married.</p><p>Decendants of these people are scattered all over the United States and a lot of their descendants are right here in Wayne County.</p><p>D:\Docs\2018-04-08\07c8620bfa2039d2beb33b6288c4732d.doc</p>
