<p> Cardiovascular CT and MR Training for University of Michigan Cardiology Fellows Course Syllabus</p><p>Course Objectives: 1. Understand basic techniques of acquiring cardiovascular CT and MR 2. Be able to use workstations for basic viewing cardiovascular CT and MR studies, including basic 3D post- processing reconstruction methods for CT 3. Understand the relative strengths and limitations of cardiovascular CT and MR in comparison to other imaging modalities, and which patients may or may not be good candidates for these studies 4. Be aware of potential artifacts that may occur with cardiovascular CT and MR, and how these artifacts can be avoided or minimized 5. Be able to interpret basic cardiovascular CT and MR findings</p><p>Course Details: 1. Orientation: a. Review course objectives and schedule b. Schedule i. Find CT cases listed in Careweb schedule for “CT-UH” and communicate with reading faculty and fellow to be informed of add-on cases ii. Email list for cardiac MRI cases iii. Staff and fellow schedule iv. Troy LaBounty generally co-reads cardiac CT studies on Tuesdays (you should attend) c. Orientation to CT/MR scanners, reading rooms, 3D room d. Orientation to basics on how to use CT workstation and perform basic 3D post-processing e. List of past cases for review in binder by workstation f. SCCT board review course (on fellow’s J drive) 2. Expectations a. Attend orientation session b. Observe both study acquisition and interpretation whenever possible. c. Pre-read studies when possible d. Record studies in a case log. During a 2-week rotation, you should log at a minimum: i. ≥5 live CT cases during both acquisition and performance (includes TAVI CTs) ii. ≥5 live MR cases during both acquisition and performance iii. ≥20 prior CT cases reviewed iv. ≥20 prior MRI cases reviewed e. Assigned reading i. Cardiac MRI UVA online tutorial: 1. http://www.med-ed.virginia.edu/courses/rad/cardiacmr/index.html 2. MD Consult text Cardiovascular MR Made Easy (Varghese and Pennel) (optional) 3. http://www.imaios.com/en/e-Courses/e-MRI (have to register but good overview) ii. Cardiac CT 1. SCCT Board Review Course (on J drive): Sections titled: CT fundamentals, radiation, image acquisition and protocols, Non-coronary Parts 1 and 2, Coronary Parts 1 and 2 2. Cardiac CT Update 2012 Text, Chapters 2,3,4,5,7,10,12 (on J drive) f. Time should be divided between CT and MRI g. Between cases, review prior studies from list of past cases and board review materials h. Complete brief quiz and attend feedback session at end of rotation 3. Details on CT scheduling: a. Check the CT schedule for the day to identify cases. Many CT’s are added last-minute, and you should touch base with the faculty reader and radiology resident/fellow in the morning so you can be notified of new cases as they occur 4. For interpretation of MR cases: a. You should only attend studies performed at the UMHS b.
