<p> Handout #1</p><p>Planning for your Assessment</p><p>Questions to Ask/Materials Needed: 1. What type of data you will be loading (ie: benchmark assessment, progress monitoring, placement, etc.) and how often will you be loading it each year?</p><p>2. What is the highest and lowest possible points and minimum passing score for the overall assessment? What color scheme will you use to represent these scores?</p><p>3. Is the overall score a Pass/Fail, Met/Not Met, or does your assessment have performance levels? If it is Pass/Fail or Met/Not Met, proceed to question 4 i. What is the minimum and maximum or cut scores for each level? ii. What color scheme and names do you want for each level? Will these minimum and maximum scores change from year to year? Again, this will affect your naming conventions.</p><p>4. What naming convention will you use for your assessment? Does your district already have It’s own (established) standards for naming conventions?</p><p>5. What group or family should you add this assessment to?</p><p>6. What is the scope of your assessment (District, School, or Class Level)?</p><p>7. What Type of Questions are on the Test (True/False, Scored Answers, or Multiple Choice)? What is the minimum and maximum possible scores? Will any of the highest possible points or minimum passing scores change from year to year? This will affect your naming conventions. What is the minimum passing score (threshold)?</p><p>1 School Data Solutions, August 2014 Handout #1 NOTE: Typically, strands are not associated to item analysis tests, however, if your staff is ambitious, and you wish to see the strands displayed (ie: Comprehension, Vocabulary, Reading Fluency, etc.) as well as the standards, our system will accommodate both, together. She will be happy to work with you in connecting the two types of assessments (Standard Foundational Assessment Structures and Item Analysis Structures) together.</p><p>Materials Checklist: Naming Convention Structure - see “Naming Conventions Tips and Tricks” & “Naming Conventions – Sample Test Name, Label, and Score File Name” (sample sheets 1 & 2)</p><p> A copy of the Assessment test (pdf format works best) with the following*: The highest and lowest possible points, the minimum passing score, and the standard(s) assigned for each question If Multiple Choice, a list of the answer choices, identifying the correct response</p><p> A list of the Standards used for this assessment</p><p> Chronological Ordinal Chart (see sample sheet 3)</p><p> Hex Color Code Chart (see sample sheet 4)</p><p>*For Scored Answer Responses, if you have the scoring instructions you can add them, but it is not required, used, or displayed currently.</p><p>2</p>
