<p> Spring 2006</p><p>KEAN UNIVERSITY Union, New Jersey</p><p>RESEARCH SEMINAR IN URBAN EDUCATION AND POLICY</p><p>Course Number: EDD 6302</p><p>Semester Hours: Three</p><p>Prerequisites: Educational Research (EL 5030) and Assessment and Evaluation in the Urban Schools (EDD 6303) or similar courses or by permission of the program coordinator.</p><p>Limitations on Enrollment: 15</p><p>Required: For Ed.D candidates. </p><p>Catalog Description </p><p>Develop a deeper understanding of the principles of research methodology through the study and analysis of the latest and most current research in all areas of urban education and urban community organizations. </p><p>N.B. In order to insure full class participation, any student with a disability condition requiring special accommodations (e.g., tape recorder, special adaptive equipment, special note taking or test taking procedures) is strongly encouraged to contact the professor at the beginning of the course. RESEARCH SEMINAR IN URBAN EDUCATION AND POLICY (EDD 6302)</p><p>I. Course Objectives </p><p>Students will become informed, dynamic, professionals through knowledge acquisition, skill application and development of dispositions, as evidenced by demonstration of the ability to:</p><p>A. develop and apply a comprehensive knowledge of the fundamental principles of educational research by analyzing and evaluating current research in order to determine design validity and reliability. (Knowledge/Skills/Dispositions)</p><p>B. read and evaluate quantitative & qualitative research designs and methods to facilitate scientific and evidence based inquiry concerning urban educational issues. (Knowledge/Skills/ Dispositions)</p><p>C. compare and evaluate quantitative and qualitative data collection strategies and analyses techniques. (Knowledge, Skills)</p><p>D. demonstrate a basic knowledge of mixed-methodology design structures and action research methodologies for the purpose of exploring and developing solutions for specific urban educational issues. (Knowledge/Skills/ Dispositions)</p><p>E. compile, plan, synthesize and commence a literature review, which incorporates traditional and electronic resources. (Knowledge/Skills/ Dispositions)</p><p>F. research, identify, and apply appropriate research methods, theories, and concepts to improve district operations.
