The services offered included PAP tests, off-site mammogram referrals, blood pressure screenings, cholesterol and diabetes screenings, and HIV testing. The value of all of these services is over $75,000.

In total, 69 volunteers from several cooperating organizations including Moorpark College Nursing Department, Medial Diagnostic Imaging, Kaiser Permanente and The Wellness Community helped provide services to 95 women in 3 ½ hours. Other donors include Abbott Pharmaceuticals, Balloon Designs by Jeanne, customink.com, Ben & Jerry’s of Thousand Oaks, the Rotary’s Bear Hugs for Mammograms, Sue Bosworth, and Karan Kyzer.

“Despite the wealth in our community, there is a large and growing number of working people amongst us who simply can not afford basic health care as evidenced by a 42% increase in the number of women at this year’s Fair versus last,” says Sharron Baird, Executive Director of the Conejo Free Clinic.

“While the health care crisis in America has risen to the top of political agendas, the issues are complex and near-term solutions are not on the visible horizon. Therefore the wellness of our community will continue to depend upon local solutions, like the Women’s Health Fair, well into the foreseeable future,” continues Director Baird.

Photos (by G.
