Additional costs or ‘top-up’ payments template

Introduction To allow potential residents to consider and compare the care homes in North East Lincolnshire, each care home provider needs to identify any top-up fees which they apply, in respect of additional services and facilities provided. The CCG wishes to ensure a consistent approach in the way top-ups information is presented, to facilitate genuine choice for potential residents based on clear and transparent information, in accordance with the Care Act 2014.

This information needs to be read in conjunction with North East Lincolnshire’s Top-ups Toolkit.

First, care home providers need to consider their core offer. This is the offer which is available for all individuals who choose a placement in their care home, and could include: . the location of the care home . activities within the home and into the community . facilities, rooms and spaces within the home . a garden area (where readily accessible to all)

Please detail your core offer here:

The recently refurbished Kensington (Opened in May 2015) is located in a central but quiet position within the small town of Immingham. We are within walking distance of the newly opened shopping centre, the state of the art medical centre/minor injuries unit, the library, friendly cafés & local churches.

Residents are welcomed and fully assessed on arrival and an individual plan for their on-going care is carefully and thoroughly put together by staff, family members & the individual. Once agreed this is updated regularly by our team.

Our home is light & airy, built around a central courtyard with large pond & all accommodation is on the ground floor, removing the need to negotiate difficult stairs or cramped lifts & enabling residents to walk freely around the building.

On a sunny day residents may sit by our well-stocked, raised pond in our beautiful quadrangle admiring the flowers and listening to the wonderfully calming sound of the water as it refreshes the Water Lillies and Koi Carp.

The Home benefits from 1/3 acre of rear, safe & enclosed gardens with an orchard & vegetable patches whose produce is used within The Homes kitchen.

Further to research into diet and Dementia care, we place great emphasis on providing fresh, nutritious meals for improved health benefits.

Good housekeeping is also top of the agenda so that everything at The Kensington is kept in first- class condition.

At The Kensington we believe that Dementia does not stop residents from leading a full and active life and we encourage regular, gentle exercise of the body and mind to improve residents' health and wellbeing. A range of professionals visit on a regular basis including physiotherapists, chiropodists, opticians and hairdressers, and musical evenings are held regularly.

We are registered for 35 residential and DEE (Dementia and Elderly) residents. All rooms are comfortable and well equipped and the sitting rooms are spacious and homely to help create a social community spirit at the home.

All our staff are well qualified & personal development & training is constant & on-going ensuring that we are able to provide not just the very best quality of care but can implement new & innovative techniques to promote wellbeing & independence for all our residents.

The management team's philosophy is to continually improve our service by observing modern methods for Dementia Care and keeping abreast of developments in Dementia research. We work closely with professionals who are carrying out research in this area.

We strive to not just integrate into the local community but to bring the local community into The Home, recently joining forces with NE Lincs Care Trust Plus to provide day care services with lunch to a group of people twice weekly. We also offer private day care services with the option of a bath or shower & access to a professional hairdresser for that extra special treat.

We offer respite care and accept short-term emergency admissions and have excellent support from the local GP's surgery, community nurses and other health professionals.

Our dedicated Activities Co-ordinator has created a full programme of enjoyable activities which includes memory enhancing quizzes, Bingo & games that encourage light physical movement. Additionally we have external professional entertainers each 2 weeks just to ring the changes.

We operate an open door policy, which means that family and friends are more than welcome to visit at any time, and stay for a meal if desired.

For those who are unable to attend a church service our local vicar attends each month on a Sunday.

Our experienced, qualified team cares for our residents with respect and professionalism, preserving independence and dignity at all times.

The philosophy at The Kensington is one of continuous improvement in every area of care including the premises, equipment, staff selection, training and catering.

Our website can be viewed at thekensington-immingham.co.uk

If you have any questions at all, regardless of how minor they may seem please do not hesitate to contact our Manager on 01469 571298 Second, care home providers should consider whether they wish to charge a top-up for any additional services or facilities offered, over and above what is required to meet need.

Does your home charge top-ups? Yes

Yes for some larger rooms

Third, if electing to charge top-ups, care home providers need to consider what top-up amount to charge for what additional services/ facilities. Top-ups must relate to services/ facilities which the CCG has not already contracted for. Additional services or facilities may be considered on a room- by-room basis or through grouping rooms together where the offering is similar.

NB if wishing to use room size as a differential on which to base an additional charge (e.g. “standard” size rooms attract no top-up, but “large” rooms do attract a top-up) care home providers will need to give approximate dimensions for rooms to justify the additional sum sought (e.g. “standard rooms” are between x and y square feet, “large rooms” are between x and y square feet).

Top-ups Schedule

Room/s Top-up charged Room type Other features/ explanatory narrative 1, 5, 6 No top-up ☒Single room ☐ Shared room ☐En-suite 3, 4, 7, 10 (£10pw if used ☐Single room If these shared rooms are used as a single as a single ☒ Shared room room to provide extra space, they attract room) a top-up ☐En-suite 2, 8, 9 £20pw ☒Single room Window overlooking the garden ☐ Shared room ☒En-suite Please detail the offer of individual rooms: Room/s Top-up charged Room type Other features/ explanatory narrative 1 & 3 £55 ☒Single room 3.26m x 2.91m & 3.26m x 2.87m ☐ Shared room Large airy room with patio doors leading onto the courtyard.
