<p> Specials ETS February, 2015 Education Target Standards These are the content standards and skills we will focus on for the month of February, 2015. Please work with your child, review his/her homework and class work. Your supervision is an important part in his/her success.</p><p>Music Physical Education</p><p>K: Students will be able to (SWBAT) demonstrate the ability to perceive, perform, and respond to music by identifying musical K-1: Students will participate in exercises and activties that sounds: fast/slow, loud/soft, long/short, high/low. will help them develop and improve their flexibility, balance, coordination and agility 1st: SWBAT demonstrate the ability to perceive, perform, and nd respond to music by comparing musical sounds: fast/slow, loud/soft, 2 -3rd: Students will participate in exercises and activties that long/short, high/low. will help them develop and improve their muscle strength and endurance and reaction time 2nd: SWBAT demonstrate the ability to perceive, perform, and respond to music by using the head voice to sing a varied repertoire of 4th-5th: Students will participate in exercises and activties that songs, singing games, and songs with instrumental accompaniment, will help them develop and improve their cardiovascular matching pitches within an age appropriate vocal range. endurance, power and speed</p><p>3: Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to perceive, All activities will encourage students’ sense of fair play, perform, and respond to music by categorizing band and orchestra teamwork, and the importance of following rules instruments by sight AND sound according to the string, woodwind, brass, or percussion family. </p><p>4/5: SWBAT demonstrate the ability to perceive, perform, and respond to music by reading notation including dynamics (p, f, mp, and mf) as well as begin recognizing and performing different tempos (allegro, adagio, and moderato) and meters (2/2, 2/4, 4/4, ¾, and 6/8.)</p><p>6/7/8: SWBAT perform these tasks after having read the book: The Music Lesson. </p><p>CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.6.1 Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.6.2 Determine a theme or central idea of a text and how it is conveyed through particular details; provide a summary of the text distinct from personal opinions or judgments. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.6.3 Describe how a particular story's or drama's plot unfolds in a series of episodes as well as how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.6.4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the impact of a specific word choice on meaning and tone Computers-Technology & Design Visual Arts</p><p>K/1- Students will be able to read and discuss the book “Mouse Middle Years Program (MYP) th th th Paint” by Ellen Stoll Walsh. The students will create their own color Students in grades 6 , 7 , & 8 will work on computers to wheel using the correct order of colors. prepare for the PARCC test; typing skills, PARCC practice tests 2nd- Students will be able to discuss the artist Wayne Theibaud and Students are finishing their IB MYP project – Creating his use of complementary colors. The students will create their own brochures to advocate for reducing pollution in Baltimore City personal artwork inspired by Wayne's cupcake series and show understanding of complementary colors. K-1-Phonics and numbers</p><p> nd th 3rd- Students will be able to draw their own optical illusion after the 2 - 5 –Study Island; Reading & Math discussion about Op Art and complementary colors. 4th – 5th – PARCC practice 4/5th- Students will be able to draw and color a study of leaves in rd the order of the light spectrum. Students will discuss and define the 3 – Black History research; video and quiz acronym “ROY G BIV”. </p><p>6/7/8th- Students will begin to draft their design for our unit on paper mache Instruments. Library</p><p>Librarian will conduct “read-alouds” for students in grades k-3. </p><p>Librarian will continue lessons on research skills with middle school students</p><p>Librarian will prepare lesson plans for teachers, based on topics they request</p><p>1.1.1 Follow an inquiry-based process in seeking knowledge in curricular subjects, and make the real-world connection for using this process in own life.</p><p>1.1.4 Find, evaluate, and select appropriate sources to answer questions.</p><p>1.1.5 Evaluate information found in selected sources on the basis of accuracy, validity, appropriateness for needs, importance, and social and cultural context.</p><p>The Specials Team</p>
