<p> Information and guidelines for SPN 1120 CDS</p><p>SPN 1120 Credit by Directed Studies (CDS) is a course created for students who are fluent in the language and would like to earn credits and a grade by demonstrating their proficiency. Before registering in the course, students will demonstrate Spanish language proficiency by taking an Exit Test in the Foreign languages lab (6236) and by scoring 90 % or better. After successful completion of the Exit Test (90% or better), students may register in the CDS course at any time during an Academic Term prior to the last three weeks of the Term. Once registered, students should go to mycourses.mdc.edu. Click on the course reference number and read the syllabi and any other announcements on the course page. Under lessons students will find a number of quizzes and exams. Before taking the quizzes or exams (see the list of contents at the end of this handout), students should study the material.</p><p>The Foreign Language Department suggests that students purchase the text and become familiar with its contents. Students should review vocabulary, grammar and important cultural information beginning with Lección Preliminar up to and including Lección 4. There are several copies of the text that can be used at the Foreign Languages Lab, room 6236: Mosaicos, VOL 1 (5th edition) by Castells, Guzman, Lapuerta and Liskin-Gasparro Student Activities Manual VOL 1 (5 th edition) by Castells, Guzman, Lapuerta and Liski- Gasparro</p><p>All CDS quizzes and tests are password protected and must be taken at the Foreign Languages Lab. Students may finish at their own pace; however, it is advisable that the course not be finished in one day.</p><p>Once students complete all quizzes and exams for SPN 1120, they may register in SPN 1121 and follow the same procedure. Both CDS courses 1120 and 1121 may be completed within the same Academic Term.
