Rawlings, in a private phone call.

During the call, each expressed gratitude for the leadership that has been shown during this difficult time in the global health community. The two leaders also extended prayers to the family, friends and caregivers of Thomas Eric Duncan. Mayor Rawlings shared the sentiment that no country or community can fight this alone; it is now a global fight, and we act in solidarity. President Sirleaf echoed this by expressing that shared responsibility will be the key to preventing the spread of Ebola and finding a cure.

The discussion turned to local and individual efforts in combating the disease and suffering. The Liberian diaspora community of Dallas is working hard to provide much needed support to their friends and family in Liberia. With the support of religious leaders from the community, they are raising funds and supplies to be sent there. Mayor Rawlings expressed his appreciation to these leaders who are offering much needed prayers for the victims of Ebola while moving to action with these efforts.

President Sirleaf asked for the prayers of our community for her country, those suffering with Ebola and those caring for them. On behalf of the Dallas community, Mayor Rawlings offered prayers, support and the assurance that we are all united in this fight.
