2016-2017

Intro to Coding Mrs. Lambert [email protected]

Course Description:

Intro to coding is an introduction to computational thinking and programming through the platform of the web program, Scratch and BYOB. This course will introduce students to a wide variety of programming techniques, and will involve students in the thinking practices that software developers use to write programs. Many concepts will be introduced that are relevant to computational thinking, such as abstraction, algorithms, decomposition, pattern recognition, and generalization. Students will collaboratively design and implement games, animations, and applications, and will learn the basic principles of a programming language to design solutions to various scenarios.

Course Objectives:  Using appropriate software, students can work individually or collaboratively to design and implement a game, animation, or other application  Students can build digital solutions which include aspects of multimedia to communicate information to others  Students will learn the basic principles of a programming language to design a solution to a scenario, implement it, and evaluate its success  Students will integrate different media to create a digital solution which allows interaction and collaboration with others  Students will create graphics and animations using Scratch, which utilize their skills and knowledge of the application.

Course Outline: 1. Scratching the Surface (Lazy or smart?) 2. Story Time (Bugs and Event-driven Programming) 3. A Mazing Game (The Importance of Design) 4. Get the Picture? (Nesting) 5. Forest Archery Game (Variables) 6.
