<p>PRESS RELEASE October 31, 2014 George Takei to Attend To Be Takei Screening in Somerville The Boston Asian American Film Festival Ends with a Special Presentation, Featuring a George Takei Documentary and Conversation with the Star.</p><p>BOSTON, MA [October 31, 2014] – The Boston Asian American Film Festival (BAAFF) ends their 2014 lineup with a special presentation of the documentary film, To Be Takei. The 2014 Sundance Film Festival official selection had its world premiere on January 18. The screening will take place at 7:00PM on Monday, November 3rd at the Somerville Theatre, 55 Davis Square, Somerville, MA. George Takei and his partner, Brad Takei, are confirmed guests that evening.</p><p>The 90-minute film follows George Takei’s journey over seven decades. To Be Takei captures the Takei’s day-to-day as they prepare for George’s dream project, Allegiance, a musical based on his harrowing childhood experiences inside a Japanese American internment camp during WWII. Intertwined into the narrative is a look into Takei’s life history, from his rise to fame as Hikaru Sulu on the iconic television series, Star Trek, to his advocacy of marriage equality and civil rights across the United States. What emerges is a portrait of an outspoken activist who utilizes wit, whimsy, grace, and humor to bring attention to the sorrows of his past and the joys of love and creativity in his present. </p><p>The documentary features interviews with Star Trek’s William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Nichelle Nichols, and Walter Koenig, plus journalist Dan Savage and radio host Howard Stern.</p><p>Writer and director Jennifer Kroots directed the documentary feature It Came From Kuchar, about the legendary underground filmmaking twins George and Mike Kuchar. Editor/co-director Bill Weber previously directed and edited the documentary features The Cockettes, We Were Here, The Galapagos Affair, and the Oscar nominated documentary short film, The Final Inch. </p><p>Following the screening there will be a conversation/Q&A with George and Brad Takei along with photography opportunities.</p><p>1 of 1 Festival Sponsors include: Tufts Medical Center, Lev Kia, Wellesley Toyota, Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare, South Cove Community Health Center, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office of New York and JetBlue.
