<p> WOODLAND HILLS SECONDARY LESSON PLAN</p><p>Name: Steinmetz Date: 10/6/14 Length of Lesson: 15 days Course: Chemistry </p><p>STAGE I – DESIRED RESULTS LESSON TOPIC: Measurement and Calculation</p><p>BIG IDEAS: (Content standards, assessment anchors, eligible content) objectives, and skill focus)</p><p> Chemistry is the study of matter and the changes that it undergoes.  Chemical Reactions are predictable</p><p>ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:</p><p> What are the differences between mixtures and pure substances?  How do stoichiometric ratios relate reactants to products in a chemical reaction?</p><p>UNDERSTANDING GOALS: Students will understand:</p><p> The use of significant figures assures that quantitative observations are both accurate and precise.  Dimensional analysis is a mathematical technique that can be used to express stoichiometric relationships.</p><p>VOCABULARY: Metric system, volume, mass, density, length, conversion factors, base units, derived units, scientific notation, direct/inverse proportionality, accuracy, precision, graphing, temperature.</p><p>STUDENT OBJECTIVES (COMPETENCIES/OUTCOMES): Students will be able to  accurately record calculations (including in lab) to the proper number of significant figures  recognize and use the SI system of measurement  use graphs to analyze proportionality and data  use scientific notation  use the factor label system to convert between units.  use a scientific calculator to perform mathematical operations  convert between Celsius and Kelvin  define density, verbally and mathmatically  describe and prove that density is an intrinsic property of matter that does not depend on size.  determine density given mass and volume, mass given volume and density and volume given mass and density  identify materials based on their density STAGE II – ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE PERFORMANCE TASK: FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS: Classwork Observations Homework Notetaking Tests/Quizzes Asking/Answering questions Labs Discussion Do Nows/Exit Slips Performing Lab Formative assessments STAGE III – LEARNING PLAN INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES: MATERIALS & INTERVENTIONS: Do Now: Why do we need RESOURCES: Preferential seating standards?
