<p> Mr. De Jesus 2015-2016 Health and Physical Education Syllabus Lincoln Avenue Elementary</p><p>Mission</p><p>Our mission is to facilitate students in improving their quality of life through regular physical activity. This will be accomplished by using a student-centered approach while teaching the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective aspects of physical fitness and demonstrating personal responsibility in all areas of the curriculum.</p><p>Expected Student Outcome</p><p>Participation in Physical Education shall require clothing appropriate to the activity, such as, tennis shoes, shorts, t-shirts and sweatpants. This promotes freedom of movement, safe participation, and builds a good hygienic practice. Should a student not wear tennis shoes to school, they can bring them in their book bag or store them in their locker and change before class. Should a student have any special needs, they do not have coaches, and will be held to the same expectations as the other students.</p><p>Sports Being Offered</p><p>Basketball Soccer Football Ultimate Frisbee Netball Speedball Cooperative Games Hockey Handball Physical Fitness Volleyball</p><p>Grades 1-4: To provide progress from basic movement education to developing and applying manipulative skills in various isolated and applied situations such as physical fitness, activity, individual skill development, health and wellness, relationships, friendships, etc. Grades 5-7: To provide progress from basic movement education to developing and applying manipulative skills in various isolated and applied situations such as physical fitness, activity, individual skill development, team activities and strategies, health and wellness, relationships, friendships, etc. Health Education Topics</p><p>1. Health and wellness 2. Family and social health 3. Growth and development 4. Nutrition 5. Violence and injury prevention 6. Alcohol , tobacco, and other drug  Students who do not participate in physical education activities will lose their 10 points for that day. Complete refusal of participation will result in failure of Physical Education.</p><p>1. The grading variables include: proper attire, behavior, and participation. 2. Evidence of achievement include: assessments, projects and tests (3 during Health) 3. Students are responsible for respecting each other, working well with others, and learning the game and rules.</p><p>Grading Policy: Grades 1-4 (O, S, NI) O for Outstanding S for Satisfactory NI for Needs Improvement Grades 5-7 (Percentage) 100-90 (Exceeds the Standard} 89-80 (Meets Standard) 79-70 (Marginally meets Standard) 69-65 (Below Standard) 64 and below (Failure) Grading Weights: 20% of the grade consists of Test, Quizzes 25% of the grade consists of participation 20% of the grade consists of class work ie; journals, demonstration of skills 10% of the grade consists of homework ie; at home physical fitness activity 25% of the grade consists of Authentic Assessment ie; performance assessments Rules to be Followed</p><p>1. Be here, be on time, and be prepared.</p><p>2. Wear an appropriate gym uniform on gym days. The uniform is blue or black sweat pants with white or gray t-shirt. Jeans are not to be worn on gym days. 3.  Grades 5-7 Only: School uniforms will be worn on gym days all students required to use the locker room to change. 4. Do nothing that will hinder my teaching, your learning or another student's learning.</p><p>5. No one leaves the gym without a hall pass and my permission.</p><p>6. No cell phones, Ipods, games, etc. will be permitted in school or the gym.</p><p>7. No food or drink in the gym.</p><p>8.
