<p> SANTIAGO CANYON COLLEGE SPORTS UDPATE</p><p>April 9-13, 2007</p><p>Women’s Softball  SDCC Tournament: The SCC women’s softball team competed in the San Diego City College Tournament on Apr. 2-3 at Miramar College in San Diego. The Hawks defeated Victor Valley College 5-2 in their first game as Ashley LaCombe and Molly Keegan each collected two hits, while Nicole Ava finished with two RBIs. Chanel Hogue went 2-for-4 with an RBI and surrendered only four hits on the mound to get the win. SCC played to a 4-4 tie against Rio Hondo College in its second game, before losing to Napa Valley College 7-5 in the team’s final game.  SCC Downed by Golden West: The Hawks returned home for the first time in over a month but were unable to slow down Golden West College as the Rustlers came away with a 9-1 Orange Empire Conference (OEC) victory on Wednesday, Apr. 11 at Hart Park. Charte Land’s RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning accounted for the only run for the Hawks (12-19-1, 3-12 OEC). </p><p>Men’s Golf  SCC Defeats LBCC: The SCC men’s golf team defeated Long Beach City College 380-383 in a non- conference match on Wednesday, Apr. 4 at the par-72 Tustin Ranch Golf Course. Sophomore Steve Gibson shot a 3-under-par 69 to lead the Hawks.  Hawks Drop OEC Match vs. Saddleback: The Hawks dropped an OEC match to host Saddleback College 365-378 on Monday, Apr. 9 at the par-72 Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita. Freshman Josh Perez led the squad with an even-par round of 72.  SCC Victorious over IVC: The Hawks defeated host Irvine Valley College 372-396 in an OEC match on Wednesday, Apr. 11 at the par-71 Oak Creek Golf Club in Irvine. Steve Gibson shot a 72 to lead SCC (10-4 OEC).</p><p>Men’s/Women’s Track & Field  Hawks Compete in Final OEC Dual Meet: The SCC men’s and women’s track and field teams competed against Saddleback College and host Riverside College on Friday, Mar. 30 in the team’s final dual meet of the season. Both squads earned splits with wins over Saddleback and losses to Riverside. The men’s squad was led by Kevin Bui in the long jump (20’-9.25”), Jeff Maurer in the triple jump (40’-1.25”), Daniel Vega in the 400 hurdles (59.3) and Carson Hedrick in the javelin and shot put (132’-5” and 31’-6”). Kat Benton led the way for the women’s squad with first place finishes in the high jump, triple jump and javelin. Benton’s mark of 96 feet, 9 inches in the javelin was a 7-foot improvement on her school record established earlier this season. Double event victories were recorded by Kelly Kiskadden in the shot put and discus and Leah Richards in the 400 meters and 3000 meters.  Orange Coast Invite: The Running Hawks competed in the Orange Coast Invite on Friday, Apr. 6 in Costa Mesa. Jenni Johnson broke her own school record in the 1500 meters as she won the event with a time of 4:46.50 seconds. Johnson moved her ranking in this event to #1 in the OEC and #4 in the nation. Kari Moore was also impressive in the 1500 meters as she placed third with a time of 4:58.90 seconds. Moore is ranked #3 in the OEC and #29 nationally.  Mt. SAC Relays: A small group of SCC athletes competed in the Mt. San Antonio Relays on Saturday, Apr. 7 in Walnut, CA. Highlights included Sara Riviello establishing a school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.21 seconds and Leah Richards running a personal best time of 19:52.29 seconds in the 5000 meters.</p><p>GO HAWKS!!!</p>
