Date: 1st February 2016 Action required/ To book tickets please email [email protected] or by telephoning 0207 due date: 361 3659.</p><p>Tales of the North: The Royal Borough Mayor’s literature festival</p><p>School Staff are cordially invited to three free evening events (tickets are required):</p><p>Authors, illustrators and translators will be providing workshops for Royal Borough school children in February on a series of literary works popular with children in Denmark, Estonia and Sweden and will also feature three evening talks open to the public..</p><p>The festival, which is supported by the Danish, Estonian and Swedish embassies will run from Monday 8 to Friday 12 February. </p><p>On Monday 8 February Janne Teller, the acclaimed Danish author will be in conversation with Paul Binding, the English author and literary reviewer. Janne Teller will discuss her work and particularly her controversial work ‘Nothing’, which was originally banned but has now become a prize willing best seller. ‘Nothing’ has been adapted as an opera that will be performed at Glyndebourne at the end of February and later at Covent Garden. The talk will be given at 6.30pm at the Kensington and Chelsea Central Library Lecture Theatre.</p><p>On Tuesday 9 February the well-known Swedish children’s author, Martin Widmark will lead a seminar about his internationally recognised programme to encourage literacy and reading amongst children. The seminar will be of interest to education professionals and school governors as well as the general public. The seminar will be at 6pmin the Mayor’s Parlour at Kensington, Town Hall.</p><p>On Wednesday 10 February Costa Book Prize judge and Managing Editor of Books for Keeps, Andrea Reece will chair a discussion about Jakob Martin Strid’s book, Little Frog. The book’s UK publisher Anna McQuinn of Alana Books will be joined by the Danish editor from Gyldendal Books, who has worked with Strid for more than ten years. It promises to be a fascinating evening. The discussion will take place at 6pm in the Mayor’s Parlour at Kensington Town Hall.</p><p>Tickets for all three events are available from [email protected] or by telephoning 0207 361 3659. If you mention that you are school staff whilst booking your ticket you can be exempt from the suggested donation of £10 to the Mayor’s Charity, Lung Cancer Research, for the event on Monday 8 February. </p><p>There will be no charge for the events on Tuesday 9 February or Wednesday 10 February.
