AWEMA (M) – Swansea, Q1 2 BEN has continued to supply information to Neath Port Talbot, Llanelli AWEMA relating to consultations with BME Community First Officer. Afsa communities about Home Zone initiatives that Salam are being developed in Castle Ward, Swansea. Q1 2 Working closely with AWEMA led partnership to develop an EQUAL project. Q2 2 Continue to work closely with AWEMA to develop an EQUAL project Q3 2 Initial discussions with Afsa Salem regarding engagement with ethnic communities in Llaneli in relation to Green space provision.</p><p>9 A6. MEWN Swansea & Port Talbot Q 1 1 -Initial meeting with MEWN Swansea and Bangladeshi Women’s Group-(M) National Trust to develop a summer Ashra Salam – National Trust, volunteer activity/event. Gower volunteer activity Due to staff changes this event is still being developed from the last quarter. Q2 3 An environmental event with National Trust and the Port Talbot women took place at Rhossili , Gower. BEN was only involved with facilitating contact between MEWN and NT in order for an event to take place so did not organise or attend this event Q3 3 BEN facilitated contact between this group and the Gateway Garden project which enabled this group to take part in an event on 27.11.05 at the National Botanic Gardens, Carmarthen. A7. Horn of Africa Group Q1 2 Assisting HAG with recycling books for Somalia and other Horn of Africa countries. A8. Women Connect First. (M) Q2 2 Made aware of and participated in the Soad Hamdi development a Cardiff Mentro Allan partnership to create a project proposal to the Big Lottery Q3 2 Initially keen to become the lead partner for the Cardiff/Vale partnership. YMO Newport Q2 1 Supporting the development of new Muslim youth organisation in Newport and connecting them in to the Festival of Muslim Cultures programme 2006 A13 Community Resource Centre Q2 1 Launched earlier this year, the centre is Newport (CRC) shared by a number of different groups but is in its early developmental phase. Giving advice and information of potential environment trips run via the centre and also putting together a Green Policy for the building as well as helping with funding applications</p><p>10 A14 Samaj Centre (M) Q3 1 BEN assisted the Samaj Centre in developing Mr Arvind Vasani a successful Communities and Facilities bid in 2003. </p><p>Mr Vasani is keen for the centre to be involved with future environmental projects. Initial discussions took place during this quarter</p><p>GU8042 1b. Support 8 groups in developing activities and projects</p><p>Forest School Events (M) Q 1 1-2 The success of the Scream in the Forest Partners: event that took place in the previous quarter B1. Swansea Bay Asylum Seeker and a Forest School pilot project led to the Support Group. (SBASSG) development of a funding application to Sylvie Butterbach Environment B2. Displaced People in Action. Wales for an environmental Bridget education/integration project. Swansea Council – Countryside Application created and submitted by BEN in section, Caswell Bay Wardens partnership with SBASSG. SBASSG-Nesta Steffens Q 1 2 Application successful. 5 Forest School days to be provided between August 2005 and April2006. Q 2 3 2 successful events involving 30 young people took place at Forest School , Caswell, Gower during August. BEN did not organise or attend this event, as its role was to initiate the development of the project and access /manage the funding and assist with final reporting.</p><p>Q3 3 2 successful Forest School events took place in October with 29 participants. 1 more event is planned in the spring of 2006 BEN in discussion with Forest School to further develop this project with an application to the Social Risk Fund. </p><p>Q4 3 5th and final successful Forest School event took place during March with a total of 73 participants in the project. Possible future developments for the project have been discussed between SBASSG and Environment Wales B3. Ethnic Minority Substance Q1 3 BEN helping to support and deliver on the Misuse Task Group recommendations coming from the research Rocio Cifuentes – Co-ordinator report and the feasibility study. B13. African Community Centre, Q3 1,2,3 The Centre requested an event in the Swansea (M) countryside. An activity event for 29 women Linda and children was set up and took place with Swansea Council’s Countryside Section. Wardens at Bishops Wood, Caswell on Gower. Due to the success of the event and its close proximity to Swansea many of the group are expected to return on their own. Q 2,3,4 3 African Community Centre hosts the Reused Bike Project –Which is visited by a wide range of people from both the ethnic communities and other members of the community - therefore assisting in the centres aim to ‘break down barriers’. The Centre also benefits from the rental for the use of space for the bike project. B14. CYAN Community Centre Q1 2 Supporting the development of a community Project centre using sustainable building techniques/principles. Provision of Multicultural Group. sustainable build contacts etc Prof. Jaafar Elmirghani Q2 2 Presentation of the Centre’s Business Plan at an Eid Buffet Dinner launch at the beginning of November 2005. Q3 2 Second presentation of the business plan at Swansea University. Total of 18 local Muslim and BME organisations now supporting the project. Connecting Youth Abroad & Q1 2 Developing the Olive Garden/ Gardens for Nationally (as a result of the Peace follow up project with Swansea Council for Europe Project for participants and their partners in Granada, Muslim Youth in Swansea) Spain. Q2 2 Looking to tie in the development of a garden with the Festival of Muslim Cultures 2006 Q3 2 Discussions with members of Swansea Mosque management. Original ‘Kafel Centre’ site acquired to revive former Multi-cultural garden project. Q4 3 Funding sources being investigated. Original garden report being updated in light of new developments. Spanish group informed of Wales site for the Olive Garden and correspondence continues in order to develop the garden ‘twinning’ proposal. C5. Mentro Allan.
