<p>1. Scope This document provides guidelines to clean a restraint system. Cleaning the restraint system can help it last longer and prevent corrosion of the metal components. The webbing is to be cleaned with fresh water and mild soap. The metal components are to be cleaned with a lint free cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol. After cleaning, protect the assemblies from moisture, dirt, and other contaminates until a visual inspection can be performed and the restraints are returned to service.</p><p>2. Equipment and Materials WARNING: BEFORE YOU USE A CLEANING MATERIAL YOU MUST KNOW THE HAZARD CODE AND OBTAIN THE NECESSARY PROTECTION. REFER TO THE PAGE ON HAZARD CODES FOR MATERIALS IN THE RESTRAINT CMM OR ACM.</p><p> Isopropyl alchol – Optional source, HAZARD CODE 130D  Mild Soap – Optional source (household dishwashing liquid soap or laundry detergent)  Cloth lint-free – Optional source  Sponge or soft brush – Optional source</p><p>3. Procedure CAUTIONS:  THE RESTRAINT SYSTEM MUST NOT BE MACHINED WASHED UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED IN THE CMM OR ACM. MACHINE WASHING CAN SIGNIFICANTLY CHANGE THE PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE RESTRAINT SYSTEM.  THE RESTRAINT MAY BE DRY CLEANED.  REFER TO THE “CHECK” SECTION OF THE ACM OR CMM TO DETERMINE IF THE WEBBING MUST BE REPLACED.  WHEN CLEANING THE RESTRAINT SYSTEM, CRE MUST BE TAKEN TO KEEP AWAY FOREIGN MATTER AND CLEANING MEDIA FROM THE HARDWARE COMPONENTS.  NO SOAP AND WATER IS TO BE USED ON METALLIC COMPONENTS.</p><p>1. Cleaning the webbing  Attach pieces of cloth to cover the metal fittings  Either: a) dry clean the webbing or b) hand wash the webbing by scrubbing gently with a soft brush or sponge using a cold soapy solution.  Dry the restraint system in an area with good air flow. Do not heat dry or place in direct sunlight.  Inspect the dry restraint system</p><p>2. Cleaning hardware  The hardware should be cleaned with a lint free cloth that is moist with isopropyl alcohol. WARNING: WHEN USING ISOPROPYL ALCHOL FOLLOW DIRECTIONS AND WARNINGS GIVEN BY THE MANUFACTURER. AVOID ANY CONTACT WITH THE WEBBING MATERIAL.</p>
