<p> Propaganda Lesson Plans </p><p>Monday, February 7, 2011 Goals: Students will be able to:  Identify author’s purpose  Analyze an author’s implicit and explicit argument or point of view </p><p>Procedures:  Write down goals for the day  Silent Reading  Define the first 5 OAA verbs from the word wall as a class  Begin discussing the author’s purpose o What is it? o Review the author’s purpose for the stories we have read this year o Cite examples of types of documents that fall under each author’s purpose o Complete Lesson #8 in the Buckle Down o Complete Lesson #7 in the Buckle Down – Practice analyzing texts </p><p>Tuesday, February 8, 2011 Goals:  Identify author’s purpose  Analyze an author’s implicit and explicit argument or point of view  Identify persuasive techniques, propaganda, bias and stereotyping </p><p>Procedures:  Write down goals for the day  Define the next 5 OAA words from the word wall  Review author’s purpose  Begin talking about different documents that are meant to persuade readers  Introduction to Propaganda o Teaser: Only children are no longer US Citizens o Read the propaganda hand-out . Practice coding the text . Answer questions to demonstrate comprehension . Discuss differences between argument/persuasion and propaganda . Look at examples of propaganda from World War II  Take notes on different types of propaganda using graphic organizer packet </p><p>Wednesday, February 9, 2011 Goals: . Identify audience and purpose . Analyze an author’s point of view . Identify persuasive techniques, propaganda, bias and stereotyping </p><p>Procedures: . Write down goals for the day . Silent Reading . Advertisement Awareness Exercise o How many ads are in your magazine? o Group work. Students will be split into groups of four – each student will have a different type of magazine. They will have to come up with a ratio of content to advertisements and create a visual aid to show the differences between different types of magazines.  Review types of propaganda  Work on Advertisement analysis activity </p><p>Thursday, February 10, 2011 Goals: o Identify audience and purpose o Analyze author’s point of view o Identify persuasive techniques and propaganda </p><p>Procedures: o Write down goals for the day o Write down the next 5 OAA verbs and define o Review propaganda techniques o Continue to work on Advertisement Analysis activity o Talk about the use of propaganda for a cause or political activity o Political ad analysis exercise with 2 different political ads from YouTube </p><p>Friday, February 11, 2011 Goals: Goals will be the same as they have been for the past week. </p><p>Procedures: o Review goals for the day o Define 5 more OAA verbs o Complete the Persuasive Techniques section in the Buckle Down o Split into groups according to advertising interest o Review the requirements for the final assignment o Begin creating ad campaign in small groups </p>
