<p> 2018 PROGRAM</p><p>SUMMER INTERN APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS</p><p>STUDENT CRITERIA</p><p>1. Must be an undergraduate Junior, Senior or graduate student at an accredited 4-year academic institution or graduate of an accredited community college with plans to further his/her educational endeavors.</p><p>2. Have successfully completed 3 out of the 6 following courses: Urban Forestry Management Dendrology Spatial Sciences Plant Pathology Entomology Arboriculture Biometrics</p><p>3. Have a Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 grading scale.</p><p>NOTE: Applicants will be required to complete a background investigation and a drug test prior to employment.</p><p>EXPERIENCE INTERNS WILL RECEIVE</p><p>1. Exposure to a wide variety of activities engaged in by municipal arborists, utility arborists, and non-profit arborists who are responsible for various aspects of a community tree program. 2. Instruction on preparing a photo journal presentation to be given by the student during a national urban forestry conference. 3. An opportunity to build a professional network with arborists in these employment sectors across the nation.</p><p>INTERNSHIP BENEFITS</p><p>Each student selected will be provided with the following:</p><p>1. $1,200 Housing Stipend, if applicable.</p><p>1 2. Registration and $300 travel scholarship to attend the Fall 2018 Annual SMA Conference Nov. 6, 2018 in Irvine, CA 3. An hourly wage of $15/hr for 10 weeks (40 hours/wk) during the summer of 2018. For schools on a semester system: Approximate start date will be May 21, 2018~ approximate end date will be July 27, 2018. OR For schools on a quarter system: Approximate start date will be June 18, 2018 ~ approximate end date will be August 242018. </p><p>HOW TO APPLY</p><p>1. Complete the attached SMA Summer Intern application.</p><p>2. Submit an OFFICIAL University transcript SEALED from your current University.</p><p>3. Submit one Letter of Recommendation from an individual employed by your current academic institution.</p><p>4. Submit one Letter of Recommendation from an individual who has seen your level of service in your local community –OR- your current employer.</p><p>5.
