Weatherford FFA Member Wins State FFA Agriscience Speech Contest

<p>RELEASE DATE CONTACT: Kent Boggs May 3, 2017 405-743-5498</p><p>Weatherford FFA Member Wins State FFA Agriscience Speech Contest By Catherine Appling, Media Intern</p><p>STILLWATER, Okla. — Reagan Stephens of the Weatherford FFA Chapter won first place in the agriscience division of the State FFA Speech Contest during the 2017 Oklahoma FFA Career Leadership </p><p>Events at Oklahoma State University April 28. </p><p>The agriscience division allows FFA members to give a six- to eight-minute prepared speech about topics such as biotechnology, biogenetics, bioengineering, mechanical engineering, farm safety, research, lasers, satellites, computers and embryo transfer. </p><p>Kale Parker of Indianola FFA, Jacob Auer of Oklahoma Union FFA, Calvin Johnson of Vinita </p><p>FFA, and Brooklyn Ramsey of Ripley FFA placed second through fifth, respectively.</p><p>The agriscience division is sponsored by Ed and Monica Sneary of Allen, Texas, Sonic – </p><p>America’s Drive-In, and Lee and Jeanette Coker. Additional sponsorship is provided by Trusted </p><p>Choice/Independent Insurance Agents, Farm Credit Associations of Oklahoma and the Choctaw Nation of</p><p>Oklahoma.</p><p>The OSU College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources hosts the State FFA Leadership</p><p>Development Events each April. State sponsorship for this event is provided by Ed and Monica Sneary, </p><p>Allen, Texas; Sonic, America’s Drive-in and Lee and Jeanette Coker. The high placing individual will receive a $1,000 scholarship sponsored by SandRidge Energy. </p><p>FFA is an integral part of the Agricultural Education division in the Oklahoma Department of </p><p>Career and Technology Education system. With more than 27,000 members and 357 chapters, the </p><p>Oklahoma FFA Association is the fourth-largest state FFA association.
