<p>Medical Student Fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis The Cleveland Clinic Mellen Center for Multiple Sclerosis Program Description - 2016</p><p>Sponsored by: The National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS), Ohio Buckeye Chapter</p><p>Description: This fellowship has been developed to expose interested medical students in their pre-clinical years to the field of multiple sclerosis. This is an ideal opportunity for the summer between the first and second years of medical school. The proposed fellowship will expose the student to patients with multiple sclerosis and related disorders in a multidisciplinary care setting. During this time the student will have the opportunity to observe outpatient clinics, physical therapy and occupational therapy sessions, and rehabilitation clinics. In addition they may have the opportunity to observe clinical trials patients. </p><p>Fellowship Period: 6 week fellowship extending from June 20 through July 29, 2016 </p><p>Stipend Award Amount: $3000 for the 6 week fellowship period</p><p>Purpose / Objectives:  Support medical students interested in gaining exposure to working with patients with multiple sclerosis and/or learning about research opportunities in MS.</p><p>Expectations:  Student will be assigned a neurologist mentor to discuss interests and opportunities at the MS Center.  With input from student’s mentor, a training plan must be devised as an integral part of the application.  Accepted students will receive an orientation about the MS Society at the Ohio Buckeye Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  Fellows must submit a 1-2 page summary of their experience to the Ohio Buckeye Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at the conclusion of their fellowship. Eligibility  Fellowship is open to all medical students with permanent US residence currently enrolled in a US medical school (either allopathic or osteopathic). </p><p>Expectations/ Requirements  Applications for the upcoming year must be received by February 1, 2016.  Student fellows must make their own living arrangements and have their own transportation.  Students may participate in a research project after discussion with the mentor. This will need to be organized at least 2 months prior to the fellowship beginning in June to allow for IRB approvals.  Fellows must submit a 1 to 2 page summary of the fellowship experience to the Ohio Buckeye Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society within 2 weeks after the conclusion of their summer fellowship.</p><p>Application Components: 1. Complete the NMSS, Ohio Buckeye Chapter application 2. Personal statement explaining interest in this opportunity 3. Curriculum vitae, up to 2 pages 4. Letter of recommendation and good standing from your Dean 1. If research is to be included, provide a one-page description of relevance and approach of research project in lay terms. </p><p>Time Line  Applications will be available on-line at the Ohio Buckeye Chapter’s website at MSohiobuckeye.org by December 1, 2015.  Deadline: Applications with all supporting documentation must be received by February 1, 2016.
