<p> Clarks Run Watershed March 20, 2007</p><p>Recent and near-term activities in the Clark's Run Watershed include: - Reforestation and invasive plant removal efforts along 1-mile segment of the stream in Danville (2004 and 2006) - A Dix River Watershed Council has been formed. This council meets every other month. The council is working on both several watershed including Cane Run. - Completion of intensive water quality sampling by Third Rock in March - Clarks Run Environmental Education Council (CREEK) conducted Clark's Run Town meeting - Forum on March 6th, with good community participation and coverage in local newspaper - 2 CREEC Workdays are scheduled to improve the riparian zone in Danville (3/31 and 4/14) - Meeting of USEPA, Danville mayor, Danville City Engineer and CREEC on 3/7 - City providing education and enforcement of Phase II Stormwater ordinances, particularly those related to construction site runoff and illicit discharges - City contracted with Bluegrass PRIDE to provide stormwater education and outreach during 2007 - Creek clean-ups and invasive plant removal workdays scheduled for 3/31 and 4/14, Kentucky River Watershed Watch training in Danville on 4/14 - Microbial source tracking contract is pending</p><p>Some needs include: - encouragement of farmers to adopt agricultural BMPs to minimize livestock access to creek (agricultural agencies) - education for local developers and planning and zoning Council on model growth practices (Growth Readiness trainers, KDOT?) - BMPs for creekside stockyard, railroad and stone quarry - funds to purchase greenway along creek and extend recreational trail (KNLT?) - study of sewered and unsewered residences along the creek (USEPA?) - assistance with riparian zone improvement, both invasive plant removal and replanting with native vegetation (TNC, KSNPC, Div. of Forestry, etc.)</p>
