Nuclear Medicine Service Reynolds Army Community Hospital PATIENT INFORMATION SHEET

HIDA (BILIARY) SCAN

DATE OF APPOINTMENT ______TIME ______

Your doctor has ordered a biliary scan (also called HIDA and DISIDA scan), which is an evaluation of the function of your liver, gallbladder, and bilitary tract. The radioactivity associated with this scan should not be a cause for any concern. The injection, which is given in an arm vein, should cause no side effects. The following dietary restrictions for this examination need to be followed closely: We ask that you eat a fatty meal the night before your examination, around 8-9pm and nothing to eat or drink after midnight prior to you exam, except that which is necessary to take medications. If it is necessary for you to take medication prior to your appointment, it should not be taken with any form of daily product, as the fats in dairy products will cause your gallbladder to contract and void the scan.

INSTRUCTIONS/SEQUENCE OF EVENTS:

1.
