<p> 3rd grade standards for April – 3rd quarter</p><p>Reading The following are descriptions of reading that meets standard or is satisfactory (score of 3)</p><p>Decoding – being able to break apart a new word using phonics  read words containing complex letter patterns  apply multi-syllabic decoding</p><p>Fluency  reads 100 words per min or higher – for grade level text. End of the year goal is 110.  uses expression and correct phrasing</p><p>Comprehension  can retell, summarize, and sequence events  recall important events  can recall important events  make predictions  asks questions  makes connections</p><p>Writing – Expository (explaining) The following are descriptions of writing that meets standard or is satisfactory (score of 3) - *note writing takes more time to show growth than other subjects – improvements come in small bits at a time</p><p>Ideas, Sentence Fluency, Word Choice, and Voice  Ideas - provides several details to support reasons to answer the readers’ questions. Freezes the story like a SNAPSHOT and fully describes one character, the setting etc.  Sentences flow smoothly by using both short and long sentences.  Words are often interesting and have variety  Writing sounds like the person writing</p><p>Organization  Reasons are separated by transition words or paragraphs and supported by details  Several transition words or phrases are used  Introduction and closing are included </p><p>Grammar  Common 3rd grade level words spelled correctly  Correct use of capitals, periods, and commas  Complete sentences  Correct grammar usage</p><p>Math The following are descriptions of math that meets standard or is satisfactory (score of 3)</p><p>Overall Score – this is the progress the student is making towards skills learned during the quarter that were covered in the math curriculum</p><p>Basic Facts  10 facts and 10 plus single digit numbers  Doubles  Near facts (7 + 8 is like 7 + 7 or 8 + 8)  2 digit addition and subtraction  Multiplication facts through 12  Applies basic division concepts</p><p>Problem Solving  Able to read, understand and solve story problems with addition, subtraction, simple multiplication or problems with patterns, logical reasoning etc. </p>
