Assistant coach Keith Lancaster 21 watched Young throw a discus and shot put as a freshman, noticed 22 Young’s size and great balance, qualities essential to becoming an 23 effective offensive lineman; and 24 25 Whereas, Eric Young’s potential was quickly realized as a high 26 school football player. Playing for Union High School for three 27 seasons, he dominated the offensive line. He was recently named 28 to the Parade All-American football team; and 29 30 Whereas, some recruiting analysts gave Young an All-American 31 label before the past season started. They were not disappointed as 32 Eric went on to lead the team with thirty-three pancake blocks, was 33 named to the Shrine Bowl team, the all-state team, the all-area 34 team, and was a finalist for South Carolina’s Mr. Football award; 35 and 36 37 Whereas, Mr. Young is one of the most sought after recruits in the 38 nation. He visited Maryland, Clemson, and the University of South 39 Carolina. After visiting several schools, he decided to attend the 40 University of Tennessee. And, in the spirit of true sportsmanship, 41 Eric’s fellow South Carolinians will wish him well in his 42 endeavors there; and</p><p>1 [421] 1 1 2 Whereas, Eric Young’s athletic prowess is not limited to the 3 football gridiron. He won the State AAA shot put championship 4 last year, an event in which he finished second in his sophomore 5 year. Mr. Young is the second Parade All-American in Union’s 6 history, following a fellow teammate, Roscoe Crosby, who was 7 selected in 2001; and 8 9 Whereas, the Senate is proud to honor Eric Young for his 10 outstanding athletic and other accomplishments during his high 11 school career, and for his contribution, dedication, and hard work 12 that helped the Union High School “Yellow Jackets” football team 13 finish the 2000 season with one loss and a fourteen game winning 14 streak to win their second consecutive state Class AAA Football 15 Championship in 2001, and runner-up for the Class AAA Football 16 Championship in 2002. Now, therefore, 17 18 Be it resolved by the Senate: 19 20 That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate 21 Eric Young of Union on being named to the Parade All-American 22 Football Team for 2002, commend him for the hard work and 23 dedication it took to become one of the best high school offensive 24 linemen in the nation, and wish him every success in all of his 25 future endeavors. 26 27 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 28 Eric Young of Union. 29 ----XX---- 30</p><p>1 [421] 2</p>
