<p> Let’s Get Going With Transportation ACTIVITY SUBMITTED BY PAT GOOD, RUSSELLVILLE JUNIOR HIGH UNIT: Exploring the 16 Occupational Clusters</p><p>TASK: Define the 16 career cluster classification system.</p><p>ACTIVITY TYPE: Integration, Teamwork</p><p>APPROXIMATE TIME: One to two class periods</p><p>MATERIALS: Poster board or large sheet of white paper, markers, yarn, scotch tape, map, pencil, calculator</p><p>PROCEDURE:</p><p>1. Briefly discuss modes of transportation and jobs for each mode. Discuss the importance of math skills and following directions for these careers.</p><p>2. Divide students into teams and give each team paper, a roll of tape, and six feet of yarn.</p><p>3. Have students make an outline of the state using the materials given. Have students display their state and reward the most accurate.</p><p>4. Give each team a map and the log sheet with directions (on the following page).</p><p>5. Locate on the map the cities that appear on the log sheet.</p><p>ENRICHMENT: You may want to create a log sheet using your hometown as the starting point. Let’s Get Going</p><p>Directions:  Determine how many miles it is from Russellville to each of the cities below.</p><p> Figure out how long it will take to reach each city from Russellville if a person traveled 60 miles per hour.</p><p> Figure out how many gallons of gas would be needed to make the trip to each city from Russellville if the average miles per gallon (mpg) are 20.</p><p>Russellville to: Miles Time Required Gas</p><p>West Memphis</p><p>Van Buren</p><p>Pine Bluff</p><p>Heber Springs</p><p>Eureka Springs</p><p>Arkadelphia</p><p>El Dorado</p><p>Fayetteville</p><p>Jonesboro</p><p>Fort Smith</p><p>On a separate sheet of paper:</p><p>You are tracking a shipment that left Russellville enroute to West Memphis. From West Memphis the shipment was to continue to El Dorado. Track the route that would most logically be used. Include the names of the highways, direction traveled (north, south, east, west), and the number of miles traveled on each highway to locate your shipment.</p>
