<p> Western Oklahoma State College Business and Technical Education Division</p><p>COURSE SYLLABUS</p><p>COURSE NUMBER: OFST 2553</p><p>COURSE TITLE: Word Processing</p><p>CREDIT HOURS: Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0</p><p>PREREQUISITE: Suggested Introductory Keyboarding and Word Processing</p><p>COREQUISITES: None</p><p>CATALOG DESCRIPTION: Introductory computer word processing course which covers word processing concepts and applications. Students will prepare a variety of business documents and master specialized software functions. Emphasis is on working effectively in a computerized word processing office environment. (LAS)</p><p>TEXTBOOK: Signature Series: Microsoft Word 2007, Windows XP Edition, , Rutkosky, Nita. EMC Paradigm, ISBN#: WPB000010. The first three units of this textbook are used for Word Processing. The last three units are used for the Advanced Word Processing course. SUPPLIES: jump drive or flash drive</p><p>LEARNING OUTCOMES: After completing this course, the student should be able to: 1. Preparing Documents 2. Formatting and Managing Documents 3. Enhancing Documents</p><p>COURSE REQUIREMENTS: 1. Reading: readings from the textbook and possible supplementary readings from other sources may be required by the instructor. 2. Class Discussion: student participation in class discussion may be required by the instructor. Participation in class discussion may be used by an instructor to evaluate student performance. 3. Writing: essay questions on exams or other written assignments may be required by the instructor. 4. Testing: A minimum of 4 theory-based exams and a minimum of three application-based exams may be required by the instructor. The theory- based tests may be subjective or objective and may consist of any combination of multiple-choice, matching fill-in-the blank, or essay questions. 5. Service learning: service learning or some sort of community engagement projects may be utilized by the instructor. These projects must have identifiable learning outcomes. </p><p>METHOD OF EVALUATION: See assignment sheet for specific course requirements.</p><p>ATTENDANCE POLICY: Regular attendance in class is crucial for success. Students are expected to attend each class. Each absence from class will adversely affect a student's grade for the course. Individual instructors are responsible for developing specific policies (see instructor information sheet). Please see the instructor regarding anticipated absences or conflicts due to college sponsored activities.</p><p>ACADEMIC ETHICS: All work is expected to be your own. If unethical behavior is detected, ALL parties involved will be denied points for that homework or exam. Instructors and students will be asked to participate in assessment activities as a part of the course work. The results of assessment benefit students by identifying how competently they perform course goals as well as benefiting the college by confirming Western’s performance as an institution of higher education.</p>
