<p> FALL 2016 Chess Club at Daves Creek Elementary The Championship Chess curriculum presents a systematic, fun way to introduce and improve chess skills and strategies at all levels, during chess instruction and while students play. Studies show that chess improves math, reading and problem- solving and our methods connect these academic benefits to our classes. </p><p>Join our clubs supervised by nationally ranked chess expert Chris Wiley and his team of coaches. Daves Creek was the 2015 and 2016 State K-5 Elementary Champions. We hope many of you are planning to attend the National Championship next May in Nashville, TN +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ MONDAY Group: Mondays after school. Teacher sponsor: Eileen Barbieri [email protected] Dates: Fall session Monday dates – August 22 to November 7 (no chess Sept. 5 Labor Day and Sept. 26 Fall Break) OR FRIDAY Group: Fridays after school. Teacher sponsor: Janet Keller [email protected] Dates: Fall session Friday dates – August 26 to November 11 (no chess Sept. 30 Fall Break and Oct. 21 Prof. Dev.) +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++  Time: Chess starts after school dismissal and goes to 4:15pm. Chess ends promptly at 4:15pm.  Parents need to record these dates. Chess club will start as scheduled unless you receive notification.  There are 3 sessions per school year. Winter session starts the following week. Watch for new flyer in November.</p><p> Who can play: Any student in 1st through 5th grade. Younger students may join only if they know how the pieces move and capture. For questions about your child’s ability email [email protected]  Due to limited space, register early. The class may fill up before the deadline. </p><p> Cost: Fall Session Club Fee includes online access to Family Connection Site for instructional materials.  EARLY registration by August 18: $165 per child for this session. A 15% discount for each additional sibling is automatically deducted in your online registration before going to payment screen.  LATE registration from August 19: A $15 late fee is automatically added in your online registration.</p><p> Registration and Payment using debit/credit card online: www.championshipchess.net click “Register and Pay: School Chess Clubs”. Select your school from the pull down, complete the registration, and submit for payment.  Registration and Payment by E-mail and Check: first email [email protected] and request instructions. </p><p>Family Connection and Club Achievement Cards Every Championship Chess Club participant is a registered member of the Family Connection, our exclusive site filled with activities, videos and games that promote chess skills. Championship Chess Achievement Cards start with basic pre-chess games and progress through increasing skills. Players earn cards after completing each level. Your invite for access is sent once payment is received.</p>
