<p> Opinion 1 This I Believe 3 Writers Workshop Daily Plan Writing</p><p>1. Mini-Lesson Focus: </p><p>ELACC4W1: Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons. a. Introduce a topic or text clearly, state an opinion, and create an organizational structure in which related ideas are grouped to support the writer’s purpose. b. Provide reasons that are supported by facts and details. c. Link opinion and reasons using words and phrases (e.g., for instance, in order to, in addition). d. Provide a concluding statement or section related to the opinion presented. </p><p>This I Believe: In the next portion of this lesson, discuss how we apply the same strategies in opinion writing as we do in narrative writing. Remind them that good writing has an interesting beginning—a beginning that hooks the reader. Revisit the beginning of the essay that you heard from http://thisibelieve.org/feature/student-essays/.</p><p>Share with them the piece that you have been working on, try a few beginnings out, and ask for their opinion. (To get some ideas for beginnings, refer to Brilliant Beginnings lesson or the Double D Double T lesson on the 3-5 Writing Lessons organized by trait.) </p><p>During Writing Workshop, challenge your writers to write a few different beginnings to the draft that they have been working on.</p><p>2.
