<p>Parent Training 1302.51 (a) (1, 3); 1302.51 (b); 1302.46 (a), (b) (i,ii,iii,v)</p><p>Policy</p><p>Head Start will provide parents the opportunity to learn about a variety of topics that will promote their family and child’s health and well-being by providing medical, oral, nutrition and mental health education support services that are understandable to all individuals </p><p>Procedure</p><p>1. Parents will complete a Parent Interest Survey (KHS-816) at enrollment to choose topics they are most interested in.</p><p>2. The Parent Interest Survey will list available topics to be presented, which are:  Adult Literacy/Education  Child Abuse  Child Development  Crime Prevention  Financial Education  First Aid/CPR Tips  Fitness/Weight Control/Physical Activity  Health and Safety topics  Healthy Marriages  Healthy pregnancy and postpartum care  Helpful Household Hints  Income Tax Preparation  Make and Take Games  Mental Health  Nutrition  Parenting Skills  Preventative medical and oral health care</p><p>3. Center Staff and Family Service Worker’s (FSW’s) will complete the Parent Training Plan (KHS-817). A copy of the Parent Training Plan will be sent to the Family Engagement Coordinator.</p><p>4. FSW’s and center staff will attend Parent Training.</p><p>5. Parents will have the opportunity to participate in a research-based parenting curriculum that builds on parents’ knowledge and offers parents the opportunity to practice parenting skills and promote children’s learning and development, through referrals to community agencies that already have these classes in place. 6. Centers will present Parent training in conjunction with Parent Committee meetings.</p><p>7. Happy Healthy New Year will be a part of January training and Transition will be the topic for March or April’s parent training, depending on when needed, according to the local public school’s schedule.</p><p>8. For centers having Parent Orientation in August, the first Parent Training topic will be presented in September. For centers starting in September, the first Parent Training topic will be presented in October. All parent training topics should be completed by the end of April.</p><p>9. Staff can schedule a presenter for trainings. Presenters can be from within the program or from a community partner.</p><p>10. Staff will complete the Monthly Parent Training report (KHS-818), sign-in sheets and agenda.</p><p>11. The Center Director will also be responsible for submitting the Monthly Parent Training report to the Family Engagement Coordinator when they submit the Parent Committee Report to Policy Council (KHS-1006). A copy of the Monthly Parent Training report will be kept in the Parent Committee binder.</p><p>12. Interpreters will be provided when needed. Parents of dual language learners will be provided information and resources in their native language when needed.</p><p>6-2017</p>
