<p> January 5, 2018 Dear Parents,</p><p>Happy New Year to all! I hope each of you had a peaceful and blessed </p><p>Christmas. May your year be filled with much love and happiness. First of all, I want to thank you so much for your sweet thoughts, wonderful gifts, and cards that you so kindly shared with me this Christmas. Your love and thoughtfulness meant so much. Again, many, many thanks!</p><p>Monday, January 15 th is a school holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther </p><p>King. “A Dream Can Come True” by Cynthia Capetta recitation is Friday, </p><p>January 19 th. The children must recite the poem in front of the class without the words. They will be graded on accuracy, eye contact, voice, and appropriate audience behavior. </p><p>Catholic Schools Week is January 29-2 . The week will be filled with activities of faith and service. Details about the week’s activities will be posted on our class webpage, and announced in the Monday Morning Message. </p><p>On January 29 th, we will take a field trip to see Charlotte’s Web at </p><p>Mattie Kelly. Due to the popularity of the performance, teachers will be the only chaperones. Field trip permission slips will be sent home in Friday Folders. </p><p>Grandparents’ Day is January 30 th . We will begin our celebration at </p><p>8:15 mass followed with a reception in the gym. Children may sit with their grandparent during mass and accompany them to the reception following. </p><p>Children will be escorted back to class by their grandparent after the reception. Please RSVP at http://signup.com/go/dLwVFMc by January 16th. </p><p>Please, keep working each night -with your child on mastering basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts. We'll continue having daily/weekly drills to check for progress in speed and accuracy. Our goal is to </p><p> successfully complete and master all facts. The children must know these </p><p> facts from memorization in order to move forward in long division.</p><p>Finally, please remember to make sure that your child reads 20 </p><p> minutes for 20 days each month. Their Battle of the Books list can be easily </p><p> accomplished with 20 minutes a night. I realize that finding time to read in </p><p> today's fast-moving pace is a trick in itself. So often, we get busy with each</p><p> day's chores that we forget some of the simplicities in life that influence </p><p> our children so greatly. Thank you for taking the time to step back and </p><p> share the importance of reading with your children, it shows at school. They</p><p> have done an incredible job this year. In school, we will continue improving </p><p> our reading fluency and comprehension through guided and whole group </p><p> reading instruction. </p><p>Your children are truly a joy to work with each day and I thank you for</p><p> all you do.
