Shailos for Rabbi Willig

Shailos for Rabbi Willig

Shailos for Rabbi Willig Conference Call #9 1. What should someone who is going away for Pesach be told to do in terms of Bedikas Chometz (if they are also having Mechiras Chometz)? Do they need to check their entire house? Can they include their entire house's contents in the sale and become Patur from Bedika entirely? Can they exclude a small portion of the house, such as a closet, and only need to check that space? What if, for whatever reason, they are (expectedly or unexpectedly) obliged to return home during Pesach?

2. To what extent does one need to be concerned with cleaning chometz crumbs?

Metzitzah B'peh:

3. Considering that modern science shows that Metzitzah B’peh has no medical benefits, should it continue to be practiced today?

A). Could Metzitzah B’peh be performed on Shabbos?

B). Could/should Metzitzah B’peh be performed with a kli? How about with a sponge?

Anesthetics for the Baby:

4. Could/should one use an anesthetic such as Novocain to minimize the pain that the baby feels during the Bris? 5. If a person does not enjoy the taste of wine, but can tolerate it, can he use grape juice at the Seder? How about light grape juice? 6. Is there a hidur mitzvah to use non-mevushal wine at the Seder? 7. I will be running a community Seder this year and it has been requested to pour an additional cup, called the cup of Miriam. After doing some research I see that it is, “a feminist ritual to honor the role of Miriam the Prophetess in the Exodus and to highlight the contributions of women to Jewish culture, past and present.” I do not want to turn the Seder night into a debate or argument, nor do I want to appear that I am pandering to this small minority. Can rebbe guide me how to respond? 8. Many shuls have this issue: if the minyan davens maariv too early, when to count the sefirah with a bracha? Could rebbe go over what is best for the kehillah to do if they walked home from shul and have not yet counted sefirah and it is still too early? 9. A few bochrim have returned for Yom Tov having spent the zman in Eretz Yisroel, they asked if I can give a shiur on the permissibility of taking showers on Yom Tov. It sounds more like they want me to give mussar to their parents. What should be said on this subject?
