<p> Background</p><p>A lifelong resident of Rock Hill and the product of South Carolina’s public education system, Harry Emerson is a graduate Rock Hill High School (1971), Clemson University (BS 1975) and holds a masters degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina (1978). Previously Tax Senior with Deloitte Haskins and Sells (now Deloitte Touche) ……… January 1979 to October 1981. A Certified Public Accountant. Held various positions with The Springs Company (Lancaster, SC) since October 12, 1981. The Springs Company (www.thespringscompany.com) is a private holding company and family office for the Springs / Close family of Fort Mill, SC. Presently Senior Vice-President and Corporate Secretary with The Springs Company. Serves as an officer for various other related corporations. From 1981 to 1998, served as either Assistant Director or Director of the Tax Department of The Springs Company. Handled the tax affairs for individual family members crossing four generations, more than 100 family trusts, some 35 partnerships, more than a dozen family corporations and several not for profit entities and private foundations. Other responsibilities include company retirement plans, administration of investment strategy through collective vehicles, estate planning and other tax strategies, and responsible for corporate legal matters.</p><p>Part time instructor in the School of Business at Winthrop University since 1986 (off and on) teaching evening classes in accounting and federal income taxation. </p><p>Married to the former Kathleen Kiser with three adult daughters ….. Kate, Elizabeth and Meredith.</p><p>Currently Treasurer of the Upper Palmetto YMCA, Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church and South Carolina Home at Montreat. A Sunday School teacher and former Youth Advisor, and volunteer with Interfaith Hospitality Network program. Past Chair of the Communities-In-Schools Program. My wife and I are “Foster Parents” providing temporary care to infants and toddlers referred through the SC Department of Social Services. </p><p>Hobbies including distance running, ping pong and reading.</p>
