It is a Conservation Center located in the Angelina National Forest on the shores of Sam Rayburn Reservoir. It was constructed in 1985 for Stephen F. Austin State University’s College of Forestry. The facility is used year round by the university, private groups, reunions, church groups, associations, etc.

Dorm Rooms The dormitories are set up as suites, two bedrooms sharing one bathroom. Therefore, you may be sharing a bathroom with other participants. Bathrooms are equipped with two sinks and mirrors, a shower and a toilet. Your bed will be made and towels provided. Soap is provided as well but you will need to bring your other toiletries (shampoos, shave cream, etc.)

Parking Upon arrival you may drive to the dormitories to unload your belongings. After getting settled you will need to move your vehicle to the lodge parking area. Once the lodge parking area is full you will need to park in the area at the main entrance to the center.

Telephone Service Some cell phones and pagers will not get good reception at our location. It is very rural and in a national forest. Our Center’s telephone number is (409) 584-2412. The emergency number at the Director’s residence is (409) 584-3151. Please do not call the Director’s number unless it is an emergency. A telephone is located in the lobby of the main lodge building for use during your stay. You might want to bring a long distance phone card with you.

Meals and Snacks Meals and classroom snacks will be provided during your stay. A coke machine is located at the end of Dorm B. Our meals are served school cafeteria style. Most meals will consist of a meat and two vegetables, salad and dessert. Occasionally we will serve Mexican or Italian meals that will consist of a main meat dish. Therefore, if you have special dietary needs you may need to bring some items to supplement our menu. A refrigerator and microwave are accessible for those who need to store or warm food items.

Recreation Be sure to bring your rod and reel! We have a 6 acre lake that is stocked with bass and catfish. Although, we have a catch and release policy, you may take pictures of your catch before releasing them back to the lake. Our recreational hall is equipped with a pool table, ping pong table and a dart board. You will also have access to our canoes and kayak for the lake. A walk on our nature trail will provide not only a nice walk but many of the native plants have been identified and tagged for educational purposes. Be sure to visit our web site at www.sfasu.edu/forestry/pwcc/ for more information on what the Center has to offer during your stay.
