BIOLOGY CALENDAR SEMESTER 1, WEEK 12 TOPICS: Cellular Respiration and Midterm Exams

CA State Standards Covered This Week: Students know how prokaryotic cells, eukaryotic cells (including those from plants and animals), and viruses differ in complexity and general structure. Students know the role of the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus in the secretion of proteins. Students know the role of the mitochondria in making stored chemical-bond energy available to cells by completing the breakdown of glucose to carbon dioxide. Students know cells are enclosed within semi permeable membranes that regulate their interaction with their surroundings. Students know that mitochondria liberate energy for the work that cells do and that chloroplasts capture sunlight energy for photosynthesis. Students know how chemiosmotic gradients in the mitochondria and chloroplasts store energy for ATP production.

I posted a review for the midterm exam under Miscellaneous Files: College Prep Bio Fall Midterm Review

MONDAY NOV 14 LATE START DAY FACULTY MEETINGS

Notes: Fermentation and the Krebs Cycle Work on Cellular Respiration Review – due Thurs Nov 17

Homework: Read pages 220-225 (Chemical Pathways, Glycolysis, and Fermentation)

TUESDAY NOV 15

Notes: Electron Transport Chain in the Mitochondrion Posters in Lab Groups – Cellular Respiration

Homework: Read pages 226-232 (The Krebs Cycle and Electron Transport)

WEDNESDAY NOV 16

Chromatography Lab Due Finish Posters (if necessary) – Cellular Respiration Review for Midterm Exam

THURSDAY NOV 17

Cellular Respiration Review Due Midterm Exam: See the Review Sheet under Miscellaneous Files on my website

** Bring a book or magazine (non-electronic) to read when you finish the midterm

FRIDAY NOV 18 Biology Department Common Assessment (50 MC Questions, 25 points) ** Bring a book or magazine (non-electronic) to read when you finish the midterm

HAVE A GREAT WEEK OFF FOR THANKSGIVING!
