Riley, Jr. Park in Charleston; and 23 24 Whereas, in winning the 2007 conference championship, the 25 Terriers made school history by claiming their first Southern 26 Conference baseball title and clinching the school’s first 27 appearance in the NCAA Division I baseball tournament; and 28 29 Whereas, entering the tournament as underdogs, the ninth-seeded 30 Terriers also made conference history by becoming the 31 lowest-seeded team to win the championship, and the first team to 32 prevail after entering the tournament having to win a 33 single-elimination play-in game on opening day; and 34 35 Whereas, the Terriers were led to their first baseball championship 36 by Head Coach Steve Traylor and Assistant Coaches Todd 37 Interdonato, Scott Brickman, and Jason Burke; and 38 39 Whereas, the Terriers’ squad is comprised of a group of highly 40 talented student athletes, including Dave Banks, Kyle Behrendt, 41 Eric Sturkie, Steven Fusaro, Dawson Smith, Mo Seay, Brandon 42 Waring, Shanke Kirkley, Chuck Eller, Michael Gilmartin, Keith</p><p>1 [4226] 1 1 Munns, Bradford Eaves, Neil Robinette, Sterling Dye, Emre 2 Caglayan, Jesse Cole, John Brandt, Adam Wood, Reid McElveen, 3 Ben Austin, Chip Hunt, Adam Kearney, Whit Kennedy, Lance 4 Player, Charles Vartanian, Zack Parmer, Austin Redwine, Geoff 5 Taylor, Jordan Mickleberry, Nicholas Yeaw, Tom Dolinak, Mike 6 McDonnell, and Ryan Conway; and 7 8 Whereas, although success is a team effort, Brandon Waring of 9 Lexington County distinguished himself by being named to the 10 Louisville Slugger Division I All-American baseball team, 11 first-team All Southern Conference honors, and being named most 12 valuable player of the 2007 Southern Conference Tournament. A 13 two-time academic all-conference selection, Waring is among the 14 top college baseball players in the nation in the categories of home 15 runs, slugging percentage, runs scored, and runners batted in, 16 among others; and 17 18 Whereas, the Wofford College baseball team has brought 19 tremendous excitement, attention, and pride to Wofford College, 20 the City and County of Spartanburg, and the State of South 21 Carolina, and the House of Representatives is pleased to have this 22 opportunity to recognize such a wonderful group of talented young 23 student athletes and their coaches. Now, therefore, 24 25 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 26 27 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 28 by this resolution, recognize and commend the Wofford College 29 Terriers baseball team for winning the 2007 Southern Conference 30 Championship, and for being the first baseball team in the history 31 of Wofford College to win the Southern Conference Championship 32 or play in the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament. 33 34 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 35 Head Coach Steve Traylor, Athletic Director Richard Johnson, and 36 Dr. Benjamin Dunlap, President of Wofford College. 37 ----XX---- 38</p><p>1 [4226] 2</p>
